Adeline has had two seizures within an hour! They seemed to be “Grand Mal” seizures, her body was stiff, legs were twitching and she was frothing at the mouth but she didn’t lose consciousness. After the first seizure, she appeared normal but after the second one, I rushed her off to emergency care. The vet is doing blood work and will keep her for observation for the day but they did say it’s possible she could have epilepsy. She hasn’t been exposed to any toxic materials that I’m aware of and she’s been in great health. Adeline is two years old and hasn’t had any seizures before. Has anyone else had any experience with canine epilepsy? I’m so worried and scared!

Years ago I had a rat terrier with seizure and meds kept these under control with no other problem. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck to both of you!!!!!
Very scary! I logged on to find out the exact same thing. My eight year old corgi just had a seizure with the same symptoms. Charlie appears fine now but we will be taking him to the vet when they open this morning. Hopefully, Adeline and our Charlie will be Ok.
I'm bitchey and have epilepsy, does that count?
First don't panic. You'll scare both/ all of you
When the seziure is over take them to the vet. Not in the middle.
I am now calm enough to tell you TOXIC MATERIALs as YOU put it are not what causes it. There are several reasons. I don't know who the breeder was and I don't want to say the genes are bad but 1 could be. it could be a bump on the head.
He'll have a long life with meds
Hi Clif, here's last month's thread on the same topic.
Thank you so much Sam! That helps a lot!
My puppy had a seizure recently as well... my vet thinks it might be a liver shunt. Her quick recovery from the seizure indicated that it probably wasn't something she ate (and she never leaves my sight). With a shunt, the toxins from food build up in the blood stream because there's an artery that isn't connected correctly and it doesn't filter the toxins through the liver, rather right back into the bloodstream. I'm getting a bile test done tomorrow, which is a good test to help determine if it could be a liver shunt. It's something you may want to ask your vet about.... here's some good information on it:

My older dog that passed a few years ago had a whole slew of problems in the end his liver was bad plus he was a cushing's dog which is when a tumor grows on the puturitory gland his last six months he also suffered from seizures some bad some not so bad....the advice given to me for seizure care was bright flashing lights can bring them on(all of my curtains stayed closed anything shiny hanging in the windows removed, I kept a bowl of water in the fridge with a wash cloth in it as their body's can over heat quickly, I would wipe down his chest and tummy area with it during and after the seizure, I also kept towels around the house because if it was a bad one he'd lose control of his bowels a little so I'd slide it underneath him.
otherwise I'd really just squat beside him and talk in a low cooing voice to help calm him(if he could hear me?) He was usally fine quickly afterwards looking at me like Wow! what just happened? The first couple are really scary to see but I felt better having things to do while he was seizing, helped keep me calm...hope that some simple medicine will help your little one out...stump wags and puppy kisse's to you =)
UGH! I’m even more upset now! I don’t know anything more than when I dropped Addie off at the vet. When I went to the office to pick up Addie, a nurse walks out, hands me a bill and tells me the blood work up came back negative and if Addie has another seizure, bring her back! When I asked to speak to the Doctor, I was told the Doctor was very busy and I could wait but he didn’t know when or if the Doctor would be able to make time to answer any questions I might have. I was so flabbergasted that I paid the bill and left. It just seems like the Doctor would at least meet with me and give me some additional information. As for Addie, she seems okay. She is bright eyed and happy to be home so, tomorrow, I’m calling around to get references for a new vet!

Thanks to everyone for your comments! They helped out a lot! I'll keep everyone posted!
Not to be harsh, but can you take Adeline to a different vet? I've never heard of any doctor treating a seizure so lightly. Even if it is something that can be easily treated, the doctor should have taken the time to talk with you. I'm so, so sorry, but I'm thinking of you and your baby.
Oh yes.....I'm taking Addie to another vet but I'm contacting several of my friends to find out about their vets and then I'll be making an appointment right away.
Hope you find a good and caring vet. Vets need good people skills they are taking care of our babies, not just an animal
