Just finished a buggy hike.  I seldom use DEET, but went through almost 1/4 bottle on this trip.  The flies were competent, serious professionals dedicated to their work.  People unused/unprepared for this can find it literally maddening.  I might not have continued had I not known they'd thin out above 5500'.
I noticed that they couldn't penetrate Gwynnie's coat.  She did not seem particularly bothered by them.  I think the only place they could get to her was on the thin fur on her snout.
This might be another reason not to dock a corgi -- they might get some insect protection by curling up with their snout under their tail.

I've noticed that Waffle has a particularly itchy nose. It has to be because that's the only place bugs can get to him. Poor guy.
The mosquitoes have been HORRENDOUS here in Kentucky this summer - with all of the heat and humidity we've had, they are thriving!

I do notice that Bear and Goldy seem barely bothered by them and I agree, the coat helps keep the mosquitoes from the actual skin of the dog.
yup we have the mosquitoes here as well and I see them swarm around Charlie and he just keeps going like nothings happening lol.

I do call Roxi lumpy head sometimes though because her head fur is thinner then the rest of her body and they get to her face well enough lol.
Noticed this with mine too. That double coat is good for something besides matting itself into my carpet.
Great reason for not docking tails, I'll add that to my list! Flies are terrible here this summer also...might be the goat poop!
