I went to give Penny a bath and found scabs on her neck under her collar.  They are pretty large and scattered all around her neck.   They are still kinda red around the scabs, but they don't seem to hurt her when I touch them.  She had been scratching more often...no fleas or anything like that.  Has anyone had this happen to them?  Could it just be her collar irritating her?  It wasn't tight or anything.  Any advice would be great!

Hi Melinda, yes, change the collar, make sure you leave 2 fingers space in between.

Flea bites don't look like scabs, the only time you'll see scabs are in the hind quarters (from self biting) and you'll definitely see flea dirt (black dots) around it.

Check the collar FAQ.  I like our modified Martingales (chain replaced by thin nylon Perlon rope), slips on/off easily; ours don't wear collars inside, but there's a risk they could get loose without their collar & tags, so I wouldn't try this with an unchipped dog.
Check out my discussion, Caution: Break away collars, June 30th, 2010. Do the sore look anything like Bellas? This was caused by a metal clasp and made in China.
The scabs on Penny's neck are smaller and darker (look more like dried blood) and they go all the way around her neck.  The collar she had on was nylon and had the plastic clasp on it.  I would try to get a picture of them but I would need a few more hands.
She could be allergic to the nylon or plastic.
She has been wearing this same collar for a long time.  I wondered if it got something under it that irritated her...I'm going to leave it off for a few days...see if the scabs heal up and get her a new collar.  If they don't heal up I'll take her to the vet.
Still could be allergic to something or a coating has worn off? Bella wore this collar for 6 months and then one day I looked at her and saw the sores:(
