Back from the Vets....with ear drops, benadryl (allergies)l and an antiobotic (Fever)!!

Haven't had a sick visit to the vet in a long time but today was just that, a sick visit.  I brought Lance in to have his ears checked out, as he whined if we petted the base of his ears.  He also has a cough, I wanted him seen for as well.  His cough seemed dry, sounded like he was trying to hack something up.

He said his lungs sound good as well as his heart, so thats good.

The reason we have antibiotics is because lance has a slight fever at 103.5!!  At the end of the visit, I had mentioned to the vet about when would we need to check his temperture.  The reason I had asked is because our vet has never had a reason to take Lances temp, but after reading discussions on here, found it oddd our vet has never taken Lances temp!!  So with my inquiry he did take Lances temp to find out he had one, so glad I asked.  Lance gave the vet no problem about taken his temp, I just hope he is as good for us.  Im sure he will be, just hope since we have never had to take Lances temp either that we dont mess it up somehow.

The vet said that the temp should break by Monday, so hopefully it will and Lance will be on the road to recovery.

The vet is thinking that maybe Lance had gotten something from Tucker, when Tucker went into the groomers.  Lance is not up to date on his Bordetella since we haven't boarded him, had him groomed anywhere but home.  Tucker does not have any symptoms that Lance has. And the allergies are from a new treats from Natures Variety Instinct Grain-Free, so I guess we will be sticking with his usual Natural Balance treats.

Oh yeah, and Lance is excited cause the vet says that we need to up his food intake, as he needs to add a few pounds.

Anyone have any tips for putting ear drops in the ears.  I find it really hard to get the drops far enough down.

Get them in as far as you can and then massage the ear very gently and they'll work down on their own.

Poor Lance!  But at least he gets more dinner out of the deal!

So this morning I thought I did a fairly good job of getting the ointment down far enough and then massaged them like suggested and he ended up with alot on the inside of his ear, not sure how much actually got down in them, ugh.  I really wish the ear drops could beliquid instead of ointment.   Yes, he is definately happy with more food.  :)

We will keep trying, Im sure we will get it eventually.

Maybe if you can have someone distract and hold his head it might help. My dogs become very suspicious any time I get a bottle out and start shaking it since I treated them for yeast in their ears:(

Poor baby does he appear to not feel well? I'm sure he will be happy about more food!!!!!!

Good luck!

Yeah, i do have my hubby help me, but I am afraid to put the nozzle too far down and its hard to tell how much of the drops are actually coming out and usually ends up not down far enough but on the inside of the ear cause i am not putting the nozzle far enough down.

He seems to be doing alright, still wants to play and eat.  He was bugging tucker to play tonight :)

When we were getting ready to leave to go to the vet, Lance went right to his crate, thinking that we were just going out for awhile, when I called him to me to go out, he came right to me, rearin to go!  Although he put the brakes on when he realized we were getting in the car, also wasn't thrilled when we showed up to the vets, but once I got him to the door, he walked right in....

yeah, I laughed to myself cause the vet asked if he would have a problem with more food...hehehe

Those darn ears...I am hoping I finally solved the problem with that around our house.

I don't know about your drops but when I clean ears here I really rub gently but for quite awhile to get the wash way in the canel. Just a thought.

The drops are more like an ointment, which I believe also makes it more diffucult.  If it was more liquidy, I think it would be easier.
OMG, music to corgi's ears "feed him more"! Lance must be thrilled! As for the ear drops, put them in and have whom ever is holding him hold his head so the drops have time to settle. It won't be the most popular thing but Lance will be much consoled by MORE FOOD! Sparty, Izzy, and Misty are so envious.

Hope his ears are feeling better and his cough clears up soon!

Seems weird to me that his temperature has never been taken before. The clinic I work at enters a temperature, heart rate, and respiratory rate for every dog that comes in for anything so we always have a record of it on their file

Yeah, I also think it is wierd.  His temp this morning was 100.9.  Is it  possible that his temp was elevated to 103.5 because he was nervous, even though we had been there for about 20 minutes before getting a temp taken.  He also had one dose of  his antibiotic this morning so maybe that has helped already?
More likely it was something viral and it broke on its own.
