Bella may have a blockage:( Update: 4/8/11 and 4/15/11
I have been dealing with Bella throwing up since last Wed. She has been on shots, food witheld, special food and is pooping some. I finally called the vet today and she will go in for a barium(?) test in the am. She is her usual happy self other than throwing up:(Does anyone have any experience with this???
4/15/11 Update #2: Bella does not have a blockage or pancreatitis! Bella is still throwing up but not too often.More tests which all came back normal and more meds:(
Poor Bella has been quite the mellow patient but I feel so bad for her. Bella now has her own pharmacy and I actually filled out a med sheet to keep track of all her tummy meds as she has some that tell her brain not to throw up, some to tell her tummy not to throw up,some to coat her tummy and and antibiotic as well as a wormer just in case she has any tummy worms.
Update:
4/8/11 Well Bella spent the day at vet (of coarse Jane had to be out of town due to work) . Originally they took an Xray, then did a barium one while DH waited over 90 mn. the vet called and was thinking they would have to do surgery but they were waiting for her food to go through. Took more tests and at that point neither of the 2 vets could not see any blockage and the barium was going through her system. I couldn't pick up Bella and so I called my girlfriend to go get her for me as I just couldn't leave her there:) Bella is on pepcid and zofran for her tummy plus the i/d prescription diet. We're keeping our fingers/paws crossed. PS...Bella was the perfect patient through all of this!!!!!!!!

Jane, I don't have experience with this but my brother has a Jack Russell terrier with congestive heart disease and he's on a prescription diet. The diet made a noticeable difference.
The ingredients are probably not what you'd choose in a food for a HEALTHY dog, but once a dog is sick the special diets can be helpful.

You're right Beth....the main ingredient in this expensive food is CORN:( But it's staying down at least with the tummy meds so hopefully by the time they're done whatever she had will be totally gone!

I know this is delayed but I had Franklin on I/D for about a month when he was a pup because he had coccidia that took about 3 fecals before it was diagnosed. It really helped his tummy a lot. If its just for the short term you can feed boiled chicken breast and steamed rice, it's the same idea, just a bland diet. If you will be feeding it for more than a week or two I'd stick with the I/D because it is formulated to be fed exclusively and can be fed for months and years and keep your dog healthy.
One recommendation for giving her ALL those meds, just make some meatballs with the I/D with the pills inside. Makes them take their meds without even knowing they are doing it! :-) This is what we do with our kennel dogs at school and they are so excited to get some yummy yet food they could care less that there is a pill hidden inside

I can do that with her antibiotic but she has 3 pills and a shot on an empty tummy plus a liquid given through a syringe 1/2 way in between meals. Thanks though as I wish I could cuz she does eat them right up that way!

Keep us posted Jane. I'll be thinking of you guys and have to think it's good news that they didn't see any blockage. I thought she had stopped throwing up. Fingers & paws crossed here, too!

Jane, We had Misty on i/d for quite a while. It eliminated her regular loose bowls. I recently slowly changed her to Calif Natural chicken and rice. Misty is the one that has had 3 obstruction surgeries and has a very weak digestive system. She so far is doing well on that.

Good news to hear...I'll keep my fingers crossed that improvments are made. Has your vet done any allergy tests on the pup, maybe she is allergic to something in the food/treats that is causing the reaction. I've heard of this happening and haven't meet any dogs that have it though. Just a thought and hope everything turns out well.
