Last night we had a 4 year old out here and my dogs tried everything in their power to get the child to pet them. They sat, laid, rolled over, jumped but did not jump on,whined and where totally bummed that they didn't get petted. We go to pet Expo and they want to visit with the children not other dogs! They are used to both but  prefer children! Just wondering what your dog prefers.

Killian is a total people pooch. If given a choice between the two he will inevitable choose the kids. Why? No clue. But he especially loves children. He'll sit and let them pet him for ever... adults he'll jump all over. Still trying to figure out how he knows the difference. Kids must just smell different I guess. :D
We don't have kids around here often but when we do they love the kids. My grand daughter won't be 2 till Oct. and they both love her to death. Even when she was tiny they would lay on either side of her cradle.
Izzy likes attention so if a child acknowledges her she loves it but otherwise she just ignores them. Sparty and Misty are Ok with being petted but do not seem to seek them out.Although Sparty will bring his ball to see if the child will play fetch. He taught our grandson this game when the grandson was only 5 months old. We travel a lot with our dogs so I do not encourage them to seek out attention and they are used to being around groups of people so that may be the main reason they are not that effusive.
Maddie prefers children to dogs, but is very well-trained (not by me!) and will pretty much ignore everyone unless they sort of clap their hands and call her over to them. She is so much this way that if Jack is getting attention, I have started telling people "And this is Maddie. She'll come right over if you just say her name." Nice feature, and I wish I was half the trainer as her breeder. :-)

Jack, I would say, loves dogs and kids about equally. With adults, he will ignore them unless they start making "Oh, look at the Corgis!" sounds, at which point he will try to run to them. With kids, he normally eyes them up, but will walk by unless he hears squealing and laughing and then he really wants to go check it out. After years of work, I've finally gotten him to the point that he will ignore another dog IF (and only if) I give him commands to keep him focused on me. I still have trouble if the other dog is making "let's play" gestures at him. But overall I'd say kids and dogs are close. A year ago I'd have said he prefers dogs, but now he's three he's not quite so enamored with other dogs (still loves them) and it's probably a tie except for a handful of his doggie friends who he gets very excited to see.
My corgi mix Dillon used to cry uncontrollably whenever he saw kids. He'd whine and cry until he got to go be with them--then he'd roll over and just bask in their attention. He was a total gentle soul--would have never hurt a flea!
Noodles is EXACTLY this way. We go jogging every day after work and if he hears any of the kids in our court outside, he will give me a look, then cry and then try to pull me in that direction. Most of the time they all come running over and he will promptly roll over on his back (no matter if we are in the street or not) to allow for belly rubs. He also enjoys it when the kids get down on his level because he likes to give kisses on their ears. Noodles definitely prefers children over dogs. He has a few special doggie friends, but he prefers the human interaction. (I really think it is because humans give him belly rubs and dogs can't.)
teddy just LOVES people! ever time i take him out he looks for people and then insists on running up to the to be petted lol and when its kids he will pull and cry till he reaches them, he will lay on the ground and just "smile" with his little nub going :) its so adorable. he will lay there for ever if i dont say "ok ted, its time to go" and if the kid leaves too early he will try to run after them lol. teddy use to be the same with dogs but now he just ignores them but wants to see their mommy haha. i also thinks its cute when i take him out and everyone must pet and say hello, i think he just loves the attention
Casey's an attention whore. She loves whatever she can get, from whoever is available to give it, dogs or people alike. She's never really had an opportunity to spend a lot of time with kids, because I don't have any of my own or know anyone who does. She is very excited by them though, and just wants to play and lick them like nobodies buisness if given the opportunity. But the same could be said for dogs, or adults, so as I say, she's an equal opportunity dog.

This lets me tell a really cute story though: about a month ago, my neighbours daughter had a friend over (they are both around 3-4 years old) and they were playing on top of a large jungle gym type contraption my neighbour has in his yard. At the top of this thing, you can see into our backyard, where Casey and I were just hanging out and playing a bit. Well, when this little friend saw Casey, he started screaming "PUPPY!! PUPPY!!" at the top of his lungs and squealing like I've never heard before. Casey, of course, got riled up and started running around the yard. This prompted the boy to start screaming "RUN PUPPY RUN!!!! GO PUPPY GO!!!" which subsequently pushed Casey to run harder and faster in circles around the yard than I've ever seen. She ran her little heart out with this little boy cheering her on.

It was really hilarious, and that little boy tired her out better than I would have, had we spent the time out in the yard by ourselves.
Human - every single time. Mocha always approach the kids by ears pulling back, half crawl with his nub wag and a big smile. He whines and his ears will pop back up if the kids rejects him, he gets real broken hearted if he doesn't get petted - a sense of entitlement, like "how dare you not pet me? can't you see I'm cute?"
THat's Brody too... we have to tell him "they're busy" that way he doesn't feel rejected. Lillly on the other hand is pretty shy and will only come up to kids if Brody does first, she definitely prefers other dogs.
We have 8 grandchildren so my dogs learn fast at how much fun they can have! They also travel with me to visit some of them and get to visit with other dogs at the same time! It's hilarious to watch sometimes!
Archie totally adores any children that come anywhere near him, but he especially loves my grandchildren, when my 8month old grandson is on the rug, he will lie beside him for ages and is pulled silly by him, we are teaching the baby to respect the dog, clearly the dog already adores the baby!!
