Dog attack
Today little Izzy tried to protect her sister Misty, the doberman, from an attacking German Shepard. It was so scary! The GSD broke through the screen of her Rv and went after Misty. Izzy raced over and started biting the Gsd'd back legs while my husband kicked at the dog and I tried to get it's collar. The owner came out and obviously felt bad and her dog went back to her. I know I should be nice about it since the owner apologized and felt bad but I am furious! That dog has gone nuts barking at us everytime we walk by and they should have known that a screen door would not stop her! Ugh! We really like this park that we are at and come here every year but I am amazed at how people have these aggressive dogs and do not train them. Of course our doberman was only trying to get away even though she is the bigger one. Izzy seems ok but I am a little worried about how she will be with strange dogs now. Scary day but extra treats for Izzy today...

What a scary day! Obviously your Izzy loves you guys very much. I am always surprised and a little irritated when people have poorly trained dogs. I know it can be a real challenge, but they make us all look bad. Hopefully your Izzy doesn't develop aggression for unknown dogs due to this incident. Glad everyone was okay!

WOW...how scary. Glad Izzy wanted to "help" but sure that was even more frightening and she could have been hurt! I hope that the dog park looks at the rules maybe people can't leave just screens for people with dogs! I do hope you let them know what happened. I understand about the owner feeling bad but she also needed to keep her dog under control. How is Misty doing?

I think you have a right to be furious. Dogs like that need to be controlled and have no right to be in a public unless 100% controlled/contained. We were camping one time when this guys huge boxer got loose and bee lined right for my last dog. Luckily my dog was much bigger (and lucky for the boxer my dog was also not a fighter because he would have easily destroyed the boxer). My dog kept just turning his shoulder to the boxer so he couldn't get a good hold on his neck and it took three people to get the boxer off. This was a totally unprovoked attack. Dogs like this have no business being out in public without either a muzzle or a really secure collar/leash. If my old dog was Franklin's size, the boxer probably would have killed him but lucky for me my old dog was 125 pounds and BIG.

Maybe you could suggest a pet screen protector along the lines of this one:

They now know a screen is not enough to contain their dog. Assume they love their dog and want to do the right thing because next time she may go after some dog with a different outcome. If their dog causes injury to another dog, or anyone involved in trying to separate them, or a child gets in the middle of that and gets hurt, they would be legally responsible, why chance that?

Misty is just fine, Jane. She is pretty "chicken" so stayed out of the fray while my husband tried to stay between the GSD and her. I reached in to grab the dog's collar and Izzy surprised me by going around me to go after the dog's heels.
Anna, I just saw the people at the clubhouse Barbeque and they were obviously very concerned and upset. I will mention that to them but I think they are just pretty clueless about training. I do not allow my dogs to bark at passing dogs and just don't understand why so many people do. Mine get scolded if they bark at anyone that isn't actually coming on our lot.
Izzy seems fine and is not having any problem taking walks. Misty has always been fearful of strange dogs on walks so no change in her behavior. The park manager wanted to make sure everything was ok too. Problem is the parks that are stricter always seem to ban dobermans :(

So scary! We have had several bad experience with super dog-aggressive dogs being out in public and getting away from their handler. Honestly if your dog is so enraged by the sight of other dogs that it wants to kill them for no reason, it should be kept securely in a house or fenced yard, or wear a muzzle in public. Perhaps this dog is just very territorial, but still....
Glad everyone is ok. It seems to me that if they are around other dogs a lot, one bad experience doesn't have too much impact on how they behave after.

I'm so glad your dogs are ok! Very frightening. I'm sorry that you are banned from parks because Misty is a dobie, they really are big sweet lovers.
Many years ago I was walking my female Irish wolfhound and a guard dog from an auto repair place came tearing out and went for her. Tasha didn't know what to do, all her interactions with other dogs was always playful..she just tried to get away. Good thing...she was twice the GSDs weight and height and probably could have killed him easily. Her best playmate that lived behind us and who she trained with was a GSD. I was livid that they had a guard dog that was loose when the doors to the building were open and it could get out. The owner came out immediately but suppose it had gone for a human...what if it had been a child.
