Dog Bones

Ok, so woke up this morning and Ein had choked up a part of a bone. It was a small part of a cow hoof. There was a little blood. Off and on for the next 30mins he threw up. It was bile. He is completely better now and is back to his old self. I am worried about what types of bones to give him though, to keep this from happening again. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm a big fan of antlers. The marrow inside keeps the dogs interested and they don't splinter or break into pieces. You can find them at pet stores or order them online.

Oh yes, the specialty store that I go to does have those. He didn't seem as interested in them, but anything is better than what i have.

I've notice that if there is no visible marrow, Baxter isn't too interested in chewing the antler. I ordered one online that was a larger antler split in half with all the marror exposed. Baxter was in heaven.

Both of my dogs are addicted to antlers. The only hazard I've found is that they're always lying around the house and I've tripped on them! It definitely took a while before Ginny took a liking to them. I think mainly because they don't have a very strong odor. But once she got going on them, now both my dogs love their antler chewies!

I have used the sterilized cow marrow bones, but twice I had a piece break off and I threw out those particular bones.

I have found that Elk antler is better than deer antler. My first corgi chewed on deer antler and broke off a piece too large to swallow (that scared me). The elk antler is larger and stronger (I think). From what I have read no bones, hooves, ears, etc are safe.

This is a great Corgi chew toy. It's a liner from the cow's end of an automatic milking machine. It's food-grade rubber, it's really strong (Hank has played with his every day for a month with no signs of wear), it's flexible and it rolls on a curve (which he just loves). It stretches a little and it's great for a tug of war. It has openings like a Kong that you can fill with anything and you can put it in the dishwasher when it gets too gross. If you have a dairy near you or one near on the web, they'll probably sell you a few. Found this a few months ago on the PemList.
