Faking a limp?
Starbuck started limping on and a off a few weeks ago after the Florida picnic. We figured she just played too hard, so we restricted her activity. We thought she was getting better, but for Thanksgiving week, we went out of town and she stayed with her grandpa. He said she was limping a little, but she was still digging and running like a pro. We figured she was fine. Once we got back, she was really limping, so I made an appointment with her vet two days in advance. That night rolled around, and she didn't limp once. Then the morning and afternoon came, still no limp. So I called and canceled the appointment. Now, she's limping on and off, like the little corgi who cried owies. Seriously, she'll stumble over to me, and I'll call her dad's attention to her... only to have her walk on all fours, comfortably, to him. She doesn't limp at all outside, walking or running, which makes it seem very suspicious. She's been walking pretty normally for the past couple days, but I'm still a concerned mom. She's almost 8 months old and has been healthy. I've read all sorts of stuff about what the problem could be, but nothing really fits with her pattern. The vet wasn't too concerned, but we may make the visit anyway. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? ...and couple pictures because they're cute.

Try roll her over on her back, handle and examine each paw, apply pressure on the paw pads and check the gaps for foreign objects. Gently move her limps in a range of motion, feel them and see if it's swollen.

I wouldn't want to say one way or the other but I can share an experience that my niece had with her dog that broke a leg...this dog was fine with everyone but her...he would always hold the hurt leg up and limp...turned out with him that it was a sympathy thing and he only did it to her...so it is possible!

I imagine it's possible for a dog to learn to fake a limp, but they would need to get something out of it (food, attention, etc) and make the association that the limping movement was what was bringing on the reward.
What is more likely is that she has a mild injury that bothers her off and on. A mild injury can cause sporadic limping that only lasts a few seconds (if the dog just gets up, or turns or lands funny on the leg, etc).

I would have her checked out. As a sports fan I can tell you that soft tissue injuries can be ignored when there is something more "fun" to focus on. Corgis can be tough little dogs!

Thanks for the responses. She's not sensitive to the touch, and there's nothing there but, well, paw. I think we'll let her go through the weekend, and if she's limps, we'll take her to the vet next week.

I think it's perfectly fine to wait through the weekend to see how she's doing, especially where there doesn't seem to have been any kind of accident. But.... having said that, I was at the Corgi picnic, and that ground was very uneven and there was lots of corgi frapping going on, and she very easily could have an injury that went unnoticed at the moment. So I wouldn't wait too long before checking with the vet.
