UPDATE:
TOTAL BREAKTHROUGH!!
I am so excited!! This morning Jackson was grooming his face on his side like he does (it's just like a cat would do...he licks his paws and runs them over his face to clean it), and Sage came over to him. and started sniffing his face. Without missing a beat or moving a muscle, Jackson licked her snout! AND NOW....
They are playing tug of war with his favorite cow!! It's so neat to see him actually participating in playtime!!! He truly is one of the pack now!!! YEA Jackson!!!
Things are going great. This week he's learned a ton. He is now going up and down our steps to the backyard without any encouragement needed, and zooming all over the backyard. We still can't get him to go down the basement steps without cheering him on though...not sure why. He comes over to you and puts his front legs up on the furniture when he wants picked up to come snuggle--which is the best part!! We are still trying to get him to use the step stools, but that too is a work in progress.
We have mastered "the walk". Caesar would be so proud! They are all walking as a pack, and he just struts along--it's so cute to see him really coming out of his shell. The other dogs wait for him to catch up if he lags, which he does sometimes as there is lots of new smells here to pee on.
He had his first vet visit, got a couple of vaccinations, and met our vet who absolutely adored him. Said he was a perfect little gentleman. Jackson needs his teeth cleaned bad, and he may lose one molar, but we are giving him three weeks to settle in before we traumatize him that way. Hopefully it won't be too bad. My vet is good about letting him recupe from the anesthesia at home as soon as it is safe for me to watch him. I usually can go pick them up late morning, so he won't have to stay there all day.
We are going to tackle the nails and trimming the foot hair later today. I can't imagine that it will be an issue, he's so good. The only difference is it will be with a dremel, but we do have a regular nail cutter too that we can resort to if we have to.
And, as usual, Amber is still his favorite person. I don't exist when she gets home from school. That's OK though. He is doing good with the other dogs too--Sage keeps trying to get him to play, which he's on the brink of doing. And Seanna and him actually got in a little skirmish today over a rawhide--no bloodshed, just the usual little spat--but it made me happy that he's starting to stick up for himself. Means he's starting to feel at home!!
