Well, hello everyone. It has been a long time. My situation has improved. Still have Kissy, now almost 12. She is OK, not well but still ok.
As some of you may recall, my first postings were about our Corgi named Corgi. We are about to lose her. She had double sided FHO surgery when she was 2 yrs old. This will be six years in May, but she has complications with her left knee. The vet did an extensive check up and came to find out that her knee has bone spurs. The poor little thing is in constant pain now so much so where she can't even function any longer. She whimpers and cries and nothing the vet can do other than give her pain medication which no longer help. This is killing us. It came on from one day to the next. She will be 8 years old in May. Corgi and her sister Brooke came from a puppy mill, I am sure of it. Brooke has some arthritis but is hanging on. I had to post this just to get it off my chest. We cannot keep her in this pain, so no other choice but saying good bye to our beloved Corgi. I can't stop crying. A good friend just lost her Corgi to cancer last week. Coda was only 4 years old. We have spent $5,000 in the last few months alone and the funds are running out. I am praying so hard for our little girl. If there is a doggie heaven, Corgi will surely get in. Could not ask for a sweeter pup.

Thanks for listening.

So very sorry for what you have been through. Just remember Corgi will be without pain over the Rainbow Bridge playing with many much loved pets. They never stay long enough. We had a somewhat similar experience with one of my previous corgis. After the expense and years of watching her in pain I vowed to only get a corgi from a reputable breeder.since then our only expense is just checkups etc and we have two very healthy corgi. Anyway, hugs!

Thank you so much Bev. We got the corgis from a pet shop and the guy abandoned the shop a few days later leaving all the animals unattended. My heart is breaking. I appreciate your concern. Marianne

Thank God you gave her some wonderful years with a great quality of life that she may never have known. That is what she really needed. Wish you had a better experience, but I know you wouldn't trade your time together for anything.

Sorry you have to make this heart-breaking but so kind decision to prevent her suffering. I hope I can be so brave and selfless when the time comes. I am so sorry.

Me too...I can't bear to see her in pain. Tomorrow will be the day. I have to take an extra heart pill just to keep it steady. So sad.

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. Only people who truly love and treasure their pets can identify with this. I know I am not the only one. But the suffering will stop for Corgi and in time with me and David as well.

Again, thank you and may God bless us all.

Marianne

I'm so sorry.  It's so heartbreaking.  They're never with us long enough.  Hugs.

You gave her a good life and did all you could for her.  This is the last loving act on her behalf, releasing her from pain.  Her Spirit will be free and will not go very far from those she also loves, though you will not see her, you may still feel that love around you. Love and life are forever.

I am so sorry for what you are having to go through...you are doing what she needs most and that is to free her from the pain. It's very hard I have had to do this a few times but when you see her at peace even though it's hard remember all the good things she got to experience with you...take care!!!!!

I am sorry for what you are going through. :(

I'm confused though, if Corgi's issue comes from her knee, wouldn't an amputation sort out the problem if nothing can be done to fix it? It's difficult to deal with but a 3 legged dog can do just fine in life, and it's better than to put her to sleep...

It has been my experience that sometimes trying to "hang on" to an animal is not in their best interest. I have had 2 cats that I tried to keep going and in the end it was the worst thing I could have done...they suffered and I feel very guilty...sometimes "letting go" is the best for the animal.

When it's an organ/general condition I strongly agree, there is no shame or guilt in putting them to sleep and it is much better than to let them suffer. But in this case if the pain is isolated in the knee, an amputation would seem like a solution. But I'm not a vet nor do I know the situation here.

My heart goes out to you.  /hugs
