You are welcome, Rebecca.  Half the fun of photography and fiddling about with the pictures is making people smile.

its amazing what an amazing job u do to my pics lol :) it looks a ton better than before. his blue color really stands out more and the darker grass just frames him very well. i also like that the glare is gone from his eye. thank you Doug!

Okay, just for fun, a quick touch up of Teddy's puppy picture.  I made the following changes:

  • Adjusted the Levels & Curves darked the image slightly.
  • Set a black point
  • Darkened his face and fur a little
  • Darked his nose a little more
  • Cloned out the excessive highlights in his eyes
  • Applied a high pass sharpen to the whole image
  • I also expanded the lower part of the image with the clone tool to add more grass and leaves below Teddy so he'd be framed a little better.

Total time for those changes was probably 5 minutes. None of those changes in and of themselves are real dramatic but they do add up to a more pleasing image.

For those interested in editing their photos a bit the steps I took are functions or tools you'll find in most photo editing programs like Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop Elements, or even free programs like G.I.M.P. (yes, that's really the name of the program).

If you open your editing program and look for those tools or adjustments you can play around with each one and see what effect each has on an image.

I generally do my editing in Nikon Capture NX2 but it doesn't do something like cloning so I do that stuff in Paint Shop Pro X2.

he does have a glare on his eye but it was pretty bright out that day

thanks so much Doug, i truly appreciate it:) they both look fantastic, as i was going through the photos i see what u mean about the phones not taking that good of a picture compared to a regular camera. heres one i found of teddy and its one of my favorites. it was taken with a digital camera in stead of my phone

I'm glad you liked the fixes, Rebecca.  Teddy's a great subject.  I'll take a look through your other photos.  As an old retired guy I have to find ways to fill up my days and editing photos is good fun...and cheap!

thank you so much, it looks so much better than my original pic lol for some reason i always make the pic slanted. thank you for fixing it:) he had a great time at the lake. i never knew he loved to swim until i took him over to the lake and put my hand in the water, pulled out a stick and threw it. teddy went in after it. he wouldnt go far so thats when i went into the water with him. after that he swims all over the lake:) i have aton of pics on my page, take a look if you want and feel free to mess with them lol like the one i posted a month back when we went to DC the background is slanted but teddy is sitting perfectly.

me and my husband are saving up to get a high quality camera so i can capture all the wonderful moments we share with teddy.

thanks again! it looks so much better :)

Rebecca,  I did real quick adjustment the photo (2 min) and straightened the horizon, added some contrast to the sky, trees, and water, and tonal contrast to Teddy and the rock.  Judging by his wet coat it looks like
he was having a fine time at the lake!  Gromit hates our hot weather here in AZ and would probably love to have a lake to jump into and paddle around.

I'm not a big fan of iPhone cameras (as Wendy will attest), a regular camera will do a better job and if you happen to catch that once-in-a-lifetime shot, you have a quality file that can be printed out well or easily enhanced if it needs it and without losing too much image information.
