Long time no talk everyone! I have been taking some time to myself after Rowdy and Gidget passed away from Parvo on St. Patricks Day. Lilo pulled through without ever getting sick, she has become my little sidekick, just following me everywhere.
When I first got her, I already had Rowdy and Gidget, so we never got a lot of one on one time, so I feel like I am just now really getting to know her at 10 months old.
She never used to 'talk' until recently.
When we get up in the morning she talks so much, I Love it! Its like she's telling me how excited she is for the day to begin.
I'll have to capture it on video!
I love to hear everyones stories of their talking pups! I have never witnessed another breed that 'talks' in the same manner that so many corgi's do.

I tell people that Malaqui talks Scooby Doo talk.....she's the first dog that looks her subject in the eye when she's talking to them! To precious!

She also runs in circles while she vocalizes at the door. Unfortunately, this I can easily get on video. The cute stuff is hard to catch on camera.

@Bev-haha. Lucy does the same thing. She is exuberant about going out in the backyard. To hear her tell it, you'd think she never gets to go out. She can't contain her noise-making while waiting for us to open the door, which we reluctantly allowed, but now she's starting to bark too. I've finally stopped her barking when the door opens, but as soon as she's outside she does a "little closed mouth woof."

Funny, we never get those moments on camera though. When Sparty is in trouble he will always get the last little closed mouth woof in. It is probably better than I can't understand him!

Hi! New to MyCorgi. I have a 10 month old which we were told was a Cardigan, but I am starting to suspect is really an undocked Pembroke. Either way, I love my Addy-Bell!

Addy talks all the time, usually giving us lip - but I will never forget the once time she seemed to have spoke an intelligeable word. She was play biting - and I told her "No bite!" she gave me a pouty look, and I said "You think I'm joking?". Clear as a bell, every phoneme enunciated, she said "No?" I'm sure it was just a Corgi sound that coincidentally was appropriate to the conversation, but I still laugh about it months later!

Thanks for sharing...I'm sure this is so difficult but if you can save one other puppy this is good. I am so sorry for your losses:( I don't even know what to say!!!!!

Ive learned that sometimes depending on when the puppies were immunized, that the mothers antibodies may fight the vaccination, until the puppies are older. Also, if the puppies are given the vaccinations that you purchase through places such as Tractor Supply, or online and administer them yourself rather than going to the vet, there is a chance that the vaccines were not stored at a proper temperature being in a retail environment, with all the variables in stocking, having to get the vaccines home and back into the refridgerator, the temperature variation can make them less effective or not effective at all.
I got Rowdy, Gidget, and Lilo from 3 seperate breeders, and all were in different stages of immunization when I got them. I thought I had given them all what they needed. We would purchase our own immunizations and give them to the dogs, in fact, I have 2-7 way and 1-5 way shots in my fridge right now, (we bought extras).
The symptoms were so vague, I really just didnt put 2 and 2 together until it was too late. Last Tuesday evening I got home from work and went out to play with the dogs and feed them, as I do every evening. Rowdy was sitting on the patio calmly and he just looked at me, he didnt get up and come running like he normally did. It did strike me as kind of odd, but he didnt look sick. I brought him inside and threw his ball several times and he ran and played excitedly just like his usual self, so I wrote his odd behavior off to catching him napping, and it just took him a moment to wake up... Then at around 1-2am the same night, Gidget was barking her head off at something, I got up and brought her into the back door and had her stay the night in the crate I kept at the back door. (They all loved their crate, it was not a punishment.)
In the morning I heard Gidget hacking. I realized that Gidget had thrown up, but, it was just clear vomit. There were a few tidbits of dry food in the crate, I thought maybe she nibbled on one and swallowed the wrong way or something. I never suspected anything was REALLY wrong.
I have always fed my dogs the best foods (Science Diet, mixed with a little Royal Canin & Eukenuba) I wormed them on a schedule, they all were on heartworm preventative, and were regularly given flea medicine, they all had their nails trimmed when we'd go to the vet, all had microchips. Rowdy had a broken foot in December, and was spoiled rotten for 8 weeks while he was healing with a slint. I thought I did everything right. They were al very healthy and well cared for.
Wednesday night, I went outside a little later than usual. None of the dogs came running when I called. I thought this was very odd, but thought they had all jumped the fence to the larger fenced area of the yard, but when I went out there, Lilo was alone (and acting normal). I went back to the garage which I always had the door propped open so the dogs could go in and out into their private fenced off area with their beds, I could see Gidget and Rowdy throught the opening. I called them, and they didnt come. I knew something wasnt right. I went into the garage and Rowdy was laying on his stomach and Gidget was curled up at his side. She looked at me, but wouldnt respond beyond just looking at me. I physically rolled Rowdy on his side and there was clear vomit with blood all over and bloody vomit on his face/mouth. I could tell from the stains on the back of his legs he must have had diarrhea as well. Gidget just sat there and watched. He was barely breathing and I was terrified. I panicked and ran to get my neighbor. I called a friend to come over and help me get Gidget to the vet as well. I knew Rowdy was in trouble, and Gidget didnt seem well either. I didnt have room in my car to take both, so I rushed Rowdy to the Emergency Vet about 5 minutes away. I ran in screaming, and within 25 minutes, they brought him in the back, knew just what it was, and I kissed him softly on his head while I stroked his sweet head and ears as they put him to sleep. He knew I was there, he pricked his ears to my voice, when they thought he was already unconscious. By the time I got home, Gidget had crawled into the bushes and passed away as well.
I never even knew what Parvo was until then.
The emergency vet basically told me that if Lilo had lived with my two pups that passed away, it was just a waiting game for her to become ill and pass away.
I am determined not to let this happen. I called my vet office (the best Vets EVER) and they suggested immediately bringing Lilo in to get another Parvo booster, then a waiting game. There is no way to treat the virus, just the symptoms. If she can make it 10-14 days without developing any symptoms, she will have dodged a bullet. I am doing everything in my power to make sure she survives if she becomes ill. I have brought her inside, with no contact with any place Gidget or Rowdy had been. She is on Doggie vitamins and am giving her pedialyte to keep her properly hydrated. I am giving her lots of moist food trying to fatten her up in case she does get seriously ill, hopefully she will have a better chance of pulling through.
Symptoms can be: Lethargic, loss of appetite, vomiting, then severe diarrhea. The dogs do not die of the virus, but of dehydration. Some dogs need blood transfusions. Even when caught early the healthiest puppy has a good chance of not surviving, even with treatment. I already have the vet ready to give me IV fluids to administer and antibiotics, if she should come down with Parvo.
Tonight was day 6 with NO SYMPTOMS... this is a miracle, but she is not out of the woods for another week (to be safe).
She is my little amazing girl, please pray for her to continue to beat the odds!

One thing I realized is that every vet will tell you something different about this virus. I called 5 different vets and was told 5 different things, so I am just having faith in my vet on this one.
