Dudley does AKC agility!

Oh my! The switch has definitely flipped. Dudley is off to the races as far as agility is concerned.

I took him to an agility trial in Lawrence, KS last month--the February Fling. I only entered him on Thursday and Friday due to other commitments I had on Saturday and Sunday. At the time of the trial Dudley did not possess the skills to be able to Q in either Standard or JWW. We entered JWW anyway and also entered FAST. Dudley was only weaving at home and he was not performing the… Continue

A Corgi Friendly Castle in Homestead Florida

Bear, Tammey, and I returned from a trip to Florida a couple of weeks ago and I have finally found the time to share a great experience with our Corgi friends. (I hope that none of my Texas Friends will make much to do about the fact that the Shiner Brewery Blog was posted the day we got home but I am a Texan and must set my priorities.) We had the chance to visit the Coral Castle in Homestead FL and it was better than I had expected it to be. I first… Continue

Dudley does NADAC and CPE Agility

Woo hoo! Dudley boy is off to the races! The way one of our agility instructors put it was "the switch has flipped and the light is now on!"

Dudley has been my remedial agility student. All the other dogs he started with in agility class have moved up to Intermediate after their first Beginner class. Dudley is taking his third round of the Beginner class. But as sometimes happens, things all finally came together for him. First I took him to an AKC agility trial in St. Louis over… Continue

He Got Me Pretty Good....

So Caesar was impossible last night... but I take responsibility. He was so cute and we wrestled around, played tracking, played fetch, wrestled some more so he was W-I-R-E-D! By the time I was tired he was still on "go go go" mode. Then he started trying to have the couch as dinner. He got his first "leave it!", the second, on the third I went to give him a gentle smack on the muzzle when he turned his head at the same time. He didn't bite me, but my index did get stuck on his canine and when… Continue

Cleaning the House with Caesar

Real life story inspired by Caesar...

How to Clean the House with 3 month Caesar

1 - Take a walk around the house and start a game plan. Be followed by Caesar.

2 - Start with laundry. Make a pile of whites. Chase Caesar around the house yelling "leave it" as an attempt to have him drop your socks.

3 - Make a pile of colors. Chase Caesar around the house as he picks once again the same sock you have taken away from him.

4 - Put Caesar in crate, feel guilty,… Continue

The Garfield and Odie syndrome

I am not the only one who is getting anxous for our corgi. Our German Shepard Rusty is starting to suffer from an only dog syndrome.

He has grown up with two other dogs. Now that it is just my boyfriend, myself, and my cat he is having a hard time adjusting. Although the days we are both at work we take him to visit his old pack while we are gone. There is a total of four days (because my BF and I work different shifts) that he is home with one of us. Now we try our best to be… Continue

Food Aggression Learned?

So, Jack's trip to the vet went great. :) He was a big hit. I found out that he weighs 22.1 pounds! I was so surprised! He doesn't look like he weighs that much.. Is that healthy for a five month old? Apparently the vet thought so..

Anyway, I've noticed that lately Jack has become rather food aggressive. We knew that our other dog, Kujo, was aggressive around food, but Jack had never been. I was wonderning if he could have learned that from his 'sister.' ?

Taffy Goes to Omaha

Last weekend (July 18-20) Taffy and I went to Omaha to the Nebraska Kennel Club trial. It was a big trial with Conformation, Rally, Obedience and Agility all in one place. We entered all the Agility events and decided to give Rally a whirl. I figured she's an obedient dog, she should be able to do Rally, right? Well, she can do it but turns out I'm not so hot! The first day of Rally I was extremely nervous. I'm certain I did several commands totally wrong. There was a "down, walk around" and I… Continue

Mr. Dudley learns agility

Agility class last night was hysterical. Dudley is in Beginning Sequencing and in the class progression we're in, this is the first class with full size contacts. Beginning Contacts has half size equipment. Dudley did very well in Beginning Contacts and loves the baby equipment, but every time we've presented him with the full size equipment he's baulked so we didn't press him. But now the time has come to try to get up and over the big boy equipment. First up, the A frame.

He… Continue

Corger Follow Up

Well, Agro is recovering just nicely. He's in full play mode today. The swelling has completely disappeared and his sutures are healing and fading. The vet used internal sutures so theres virtually no signs of a scar or anything. I also wanted to thank all those who left encouraging messages and advice on my previous posts. I'm sure Agro appreciates them as well.

Agro back from Vet

Well, we just picked Agro up from the Vet a few minutes ago. I'm happy to say that the procedure was a success and Agro is currently back home resting in his kennel. I was expecting him to be in a lot of pain but when they brought him out he was perfectly happy, showing signs of curiosity as he leaned in to take a whiff of the medication the vet was presenting us. When I saw that I giggled slightly and thought to myself, "Yeah, he's OK. I need to stop worrying." So I did and I have thus far… Continue

My Corgi is going under the knife

And I'm a bit nervous. This coming Friday my corgi pup, Agro, is scheduled to be neutered. I'm a bit worried for the little guy simply because I don't want him to feel any pain. I know dogs get neutered all the time w/o any real complications. I mean, I might expect some suture rupture or infection but I know he'll ultimately be fine. I just hate having to anticipate and later deal with my corgi having to suffer. My partner and I debated whether his pain was ultimately worth him being neutered.… Continue

Dudley at Nationals!

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted a blog update! My, my we've been busy. We jumped into agility training with 2 feet and 4 paws! Dudley is doing great. His instructor sometimes says that he's "already read the agility book". I think he's been watching Taffy so long that he already has the concept and really wants to participate so he just dives right in! We did have a bit of a setback last week though. He was trying out the big teeter for the first time. We put chairs under… Continue
