Hey all,

It's been about 1 month a half since I got Kobe. When I first got him (9 weeks) the breeder told me she was feeding him 1/2 a cup per day, split into 3 meals. From what I searched online and read on the back of my wellness puppy food its wayyyy too little. Even when I brought him to the vet he said Kobe was really skinny cause he could see his ribs. Since then I've started to feed Kobe 1 1/2 cups per day, into 3 meals but I still feel like he's still really skinny. You can still see his ribs on the side but he has gained a tiny bit of weight.

Now he's 14 weeks, 3 and 1/2 months.

Should I be feeding him 1 cup and 1/2 per day or is that way too much?

What's a decent amount I should be feeding him now?

Thanks in advance,

Valerie

Since he's a pup he needs more food so "no" you are not feeding him too much. It also depends on the pup. Sage was my skinny pup and they will not finish growing till they are almost 2 plus fill out that last 6 months. I would not feed him any less.

Also if he stops eating soon you may have to soften his food with warm water because he will be teething.

Hi Valerie,

Sam: Feed him more.

Kobe: Huh?

Sam: Give him at least 2 cups!

Kobe: YES!!!

:-)

Kobe loves you now.

:)

It varies from dog to dog, really.  When I brought Ellie home she was at, what I feel, was her ideal weight.  You couldn't see her ribs, but there wasn't much fat over them, either.  You could feel the ribs easily.  She was getting about 3/4 of a cup of kibble per day at that point, but I increased it to 1 1/2 cups because I had always heard that feeding more is better (to a point, anyway.)

At 7 months old I scaled her food back to 1 1/4 cups per day.  1 1/2 turned out to be a bit too much for her and she was starting to get a little too chubby.  I couldn't feel her individual ribs and she seemed to be putting on too much weight.  She's almost 9 months old now and is much better.  I can feel her ribs pretty well again and she definitely looks like her weight is a bit more appropriate.  I think she's going to be one of those corgis that does well on 3/4 or 1 cup per day as an adult unless I have her constantly active with agility or another sport.

Okay Thanks! I never actually knew pups would eat more than adults.. but makes sense since they're growing.

I would give at least 1.5 cups a day for a puppy. Luke was getting 2.5 for a while and still looked scrawny lol.

Wow! And I thought I was feeding him too much..
