I grew up in a family that put the plates on the floor for the dogs to "clean" before they were washed- no garbage disposal needed! My husband is squeamish about a people spoon being used to scoop dog food, even though the dog never touches the spoon. Anything that is used for the dogs and might get confused with human stuff is given a shot of bright yellow spray paint. LOL. Where are you in dog germ spectrum?

I guess I might be in the middle. Once in a very great while I will let them lick a plate. I use our silverware to scoop dog food and cat food all the time they also don't touch it but it gets washed. I have heard that dogs mouths are clean. We have Corgis and they do occasionally get a quick lick to my mouth...whatcha gonna do? I guess I don't worry about it! they occasionally drink out of a bowl and then it gets washed in the dishwasher. Actually I would trust my dogs mouth more than food sitting out on the plate too long or undercooked meat!

I use silverware and bowls for my dogs all the time, I just make sure to wash them before I use them. A good run through the dishwasher will get rid of most germs and if I trust it to clean the raw meat off a cutting board or knife then I'd certainly trust it to wash the doggie slobber off a bowl or spoon!

It doesn't really bother me to use dishes/silverware for the dogs as long as it's going in the dishwasher afterwards. Raw chicken and whatnot skeeves me out more than dog germs.

Gromit licks the left over milk out of my cereal bowl every morning.  The bowl goes into the dishwasher and that's that, no big deal.  I don't let him eat off of the good china though, I don't want him to get spoiled or snooty.

LOL!

Funny!

I'm not picky at all.  They drink out of my glass periodically, and eat off my silverware some.  So far nothing bad has happened to me.  I have to admit though, I got a little grossed out when Sage slipped me the tongue accidentally the other day when she was giving me a kiss.

Accidentally?? I think not

One of my husband's oldest friends and his new wife were visiting us at our cottage many years ago and I apologized in advance for the dog hair as she seemed a little put off by my friendly crew. She said "Oh that is OK, I just can not stand the idea of eating off dishes that people have fed their dogs off. Can you believe people actually do that?" My husband and I just shared a glance and kept our laughter to our selves until later. Neither of us wanted to tell her she would be very hard pressed to find anything in our kitchen that a dog had not eaten off of! They spent the weekend with us and we never did tell her. I qualify for Social Security and am pretty healthy after many years of sharing with my pets so I guess it is OK!!!

I am imagining the looks on the dogs' faces when you didn't give them the plates to clean!

lol

I'm not picky at all..sometimes I share ice cream with Mason, and I let him have a little lick of my jolly rancher pop yesterday when he was nervous...probably a bad idea since I have an autoimmune disorder, but like someone said, their mouths are cleaner than ours! (Provided they aren't poop eaters!)
