Of all the talk that I hear about the corgis barking at squirrels in the yard I thought that if Dino ever saw one he would make friends with it. is that true with anyone else?

I don't think so at least up here :) The squirrels like to torment the dogs, hang out on the deck to eat birdseed and the minute the door makes a sound the squirrels head for the nearest tree. The dogs would probably be fine but since they run...the dogs will chase them but can't figure out how to get up the trees.haha
We had a rather shocking experience with a squirrel in Our local park.Merlin,Our 2year old corgi, actually caught it!!We ahd to pry it out of his mouth and stick it back up in a tree so it could get out of shock.Ran off pretty fast!Like Jane C.says squirrels tease the dogs unmercifully at least in Our backyard, and this year We have a family of 3 doing that!! Pretty funny watching both corgis sneek up from different sides of the yard to try and catch them.
We don't have squirrels, we have rats. The dogs see them out the sliding glass door and go tearing out the doggie door to try to get them. The dogs knock over flower pots and stand on their hind legs looking up at the patio cover trying to find them. They do occasionally catch one and bring it in for us.
Dino said that they are the ssame thing. He still loves any animal
Oh yea. Seanna wants to play with them so bad she chases them everytime she sees them, begging them to be her friends. I know that's what she's saying as she's barking at them...can't figure out why though, but they never want to play.
I actually had a situation years ago with Sparty and my previous corgi, Buffy, where they encountered a couple of mice in the back yard. They actually chased the mice and when the mouse stopped they stopped and laid down. I think Sparty would probably do the same thing and am unsure of Izzy, she has more of a prey drive. The doberman, Misty, on the other hand dreams of catching a squirrel and judging from the dead opossums and moles she has already caught I am sure the squirrel would not survive. The only one Sparty wants to kill is Misty sometimes.
Oh, and baby birds. I saw the dogs acting strange and went outside to see that a nest full of baby birds had fledged. I saw Snickers snatch one in her mouth. I said "drop it!" Which she did. The baby bird ran under a bush as fast as it's little legs could carry it. I'm sure Snickers was just going to give it a kiss.
Making friends with a squirrel. Just a little closer, please.
Making friends with a mole. Bring him a snorkel and he could go deeper.
Austin has a high prey drive. On one hike, his nose went into the air and he went tearing into the brush. He soon came out victorious. Couldn't quite make out what it was he had in his mouth. I was a little apprehensive about him coming too close with it. Happened to be a banana peel.
