Does anyone have any advice or experiences to share about corgi shedding. Our Jinger sheds like crazy and I've been told that it's only going to get worse. We brush her before and after her baths with a special brush (Top Paw) that's supposed to remove the undercoat. There is hair everywhere! I feel like I'm vacuuming or picking up hair off the floor every day. After I hold her or play with her I have to use the lint roller on my entire body! Are there vitamins I can give her to help with this issue?

John ... seriously you must vacuum more that that!! LOL

My other dog sheds more than a corgi. We furminate, zoom groom and slicker brush and am sure all the birds nests in the neighborhood are lined with top notch canine coat.

A very good idea:  early spring, put the loose dog hair out in bushes for the birds.

I'm a hairstylist so I've really done what I can to figure out my corgi's shedding habits :)

First, I've found that Franklin sheds the most immediately after a bath. So, I only bathe him once every 2-3 weeks. I do not blow dry him so instead I take him outside right after the bath until he is just about dry. The time after the bath is when they will loose the most hair so dedicate the most time to brushing at this time.

I have used the furminator on my cats and I honestly haven't noticed a difference. I've found that just a good fine-tooth brush is best, but be sure to brush from side to side not just front to back. Switching bush directions will help get all those stubborn hairs out.

Also, a good shampoo is crucial!! Paul Mitchell pet shampoo is the BOMB! If your dog has any white, get the purple shampoo so his coat is super white. Be sure to give him a great scratch session when you rub it in. And the fish oil treats will be a major help!

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'll try a different shampoo and look into the fish oil. I was thinking about a different brush, like the Furminator, but like a lot of you said, I don't want to damage her coat. Jinger is 6 months - does it matter if her shampoo is "puppy" shampoo?

I don't think the shampoo matters. I probably wouldn't use a furminator on a 6 month old though. Wait for her full adult coat to come in and just use a slicker brush or a greyhound comb or whatever until then.

The slicker hurts my dogs , they wont let me use that one.

What is shampoo?  I have heard of it.  We're in Seattle, and only bathe the dogs when the sun comes out (2-3 times a year).

I don't want to hijack this thread, but now I have a question.  I was under the impression that corgis don't really start major shedding, typically, before they're 1-2 years old.  Ellie is 10 months, so she is approaching her first birthday, but she hardly sheds a hair.  When I brush her I barely get any fur and have to really dig down to the bottom of the brush to find any trace of undercoat in the bristles.  Honestly, she shed more during her first two weeks here than she does now.

Is this normal for a corgi?  I don't want to get my hopes up, but have I managed to get one of those rare corgis that doesn't really shed?  I don't care if she sheds, as Yuki already sheds enough for the both of them, but now I'm curious about it since Jinger is only 6 months old.

I'm in the same boat. Ace is the same age and I really have to "try" to get hair off of him in our grooming sessions. Maybe it's the calm before the storm and when they hit a year old, they'll start dumping hair left and right, all day erryday. :D

Hey!  Good to hear that.  If it's genetic and I get a puppy from the same parent, I may luck out!  (No decision yet though)

Anyway, I wouldn't know.  I haven't had Scout from a puppy (wish I had though)

Bad news: our girls didn't do a big shed until 1 yr old. Don't hold out too much hope!
