My two get bathed once per month, and at the grooming salon I worked at, we recommended against bathing them any more often than that, as it can dry out their skin.  For dry skin/coat, an oatmeal or tea tree oil shampoo (or both combined) is good and a moisturizing conditioner.  Also, supplements such as fish oil  in your dog's food helps for healthier skin and coat. =)

Thanks for the tips ;)
Puting vegitable oil in there dog food does wonders for there skin and coat! Also you can get lots of dog foods that Are meant for dog with dry skin that has salmon and stuff in it. It's sensitive skin dog food. And also avocado or oitmeal doggy shampoos are great and they do have doggy conditioner which is amazing for there skin. What you can also do is get puppy shampoo which is more gentle on skin because it's for puppies but it would probably do great on your dog.

Sidney gets a bath about three times a year. We use the Tea Tree & Aloe shampoo from EarthBath.

We add some skin and coat supplement from Foxy Treats to his food to give him a healthy skin and beautiful coat, with less shedding.

Skin and Coat Supplement

Mine are bathed once per month or less, usually.  The only time I will bathe them more than once in the same month is if they roll around in something particularly stinky.  As others have already said, you'll want to get a good shampoo (and maybe a conditioner) that has oatmeal in it.

If you're looking for ideas on brands, the one I use is Fresh 'n Clean.  I buy both the shampoo and the conditioner and have found it works better, in my opinion, than other oatmeal shampoos that I have tried.  I'm pretty sure it's sold at PetCo, but since I don't have a PetCo where I live, I buy it off of Amazon.

We do full baths maybe twice a year. Otherwise it's just cleaning up muddy feet or spot cleaning.

Like everyone has said here, don't bathe too often. That will dry their skin out more. I've found that unless mine roll in something nasty, I can get by with a towel to dry off the rain or mud. They are very 'self cleaning'. There are supplements available (check with your vet) that will help with the dry skin, or you can add a touch of vegetable oil or even a bit (not much) of bacon grease to their food. Also, frequent brushing will help the natural oils to come out of their skin.

I had a problem with a dog with dry spots on his back and figured out it was from pouring the shampoo straight on. Now I squirt shampoo in a plastic mixing bowl and then fill it with water. It makes the shampoo go further and is easier to rinse out.
