Sparty has Squamous cell carcinoma. Usually this is pretty slow growing and amputation takes care of it. Unfortunately for us amputating his toe did not help as he has another tumor further up in his leg. Since he just turned 13 I am not going to go with another amputation and radiation since it would only gain a short time at his age. My vet says the latest tests show that the tumor is growing faster than we hoped and will soon cause open sores. Ugh! The pain meds are strong although he is still limping and there is some evidence that either the meds or the cancer are affecting his liver. That is my latest update but I must say that although all the news is grim Sparty is eating well, very happy generally and still able to take short walks. So we carry on but maybe aren't as careful with the size of his snacks much to Sparty (AKA Pig Dog) "s great joy! Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I really love having the support of others that are as "nutty" about their dogs as I am.

Aw, my heart goes out to you.

Gwynnie is 9 years old now (how times flies), and I find myself thinking that someday, I'll have to face something like this with her.

I'm glad that he is able to be happy still....treasure this time with him.  We are thinking of you.

I hope that you get as much out of your time together as you possibly can.

Cherish your time with Sparty, as I know you will.  When Lance got sick last year it really made me realize, that you never know what the next day will bring.  Thinking of you and Sparty, so sorry this is happening.

This is the only thing I hate about dogs -- that they have fairly short lifespans.  I would LOVE to keep my Scout the rest of my life, and I know you feel the same about Sparty.  The short time we have with them makes us cherish every moment just that much more.

Sending comforting prayers to you and Sparty and anyone else whose life he has touched in only the way a corgi can :)

Oh Bev, that is not good news!   I say let him get fat, and when it's obvious the time is near let him run after a tennis ball one last time.   Corgi hugs and kisses to you from the whole crew here.

Give him something yummy from us, plus a warm hug for you.

Sending out positive  corgi thoughts and payers to you and Sparty!  ^,,^

I am so sorry Bev :( but I'm glad Sparty is happy and doesn't seem too uncomfortable. This isn't easy no matter how old they are. Let him be eat anything he wants and give him lots and lots of hugs, kisses and belly rubs. Lots of prayers your way!

A hug from me to both you and Sparty.

Oh Bev, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I say let him eat whatever he enjoys. I know if my days were numbered and I felt good enough I would be eating. We're all here for you and Sparty!

I am very sorry to hear this news Bev!  All we can hope for, is to keep them happy and safe, and to let them know they are loved while they are with us.  I hope his spirits stay up.  We'll be thinking about you guys.  Positive thoughts...positive thoughts.
