Words your dog knows
My dogs all know certain words like walk, dinner etc. Recently I noticed that if I say OOPS! while in the kitchen (I am not known for my culinary abilities) the corgis come running.. What have you inadvertently taught your dogs??

Love this thread! Like a true corgi, Zoe has come to learn "breakfast", "dinner", "cookie", and "bone". Her ears perk up and she gets those stubby legs moving toward the kitchen! She can also distinguish between toys I tell her to bring me like "ball" and "rope". It's funny how quickly these smart little dogs can pick up these things!

Omg...mine know "go peepee" "chuckit"...they also "find your ball" "wanna eat" o and the best is "its hot" if something drops on the floor while I am cooking, I just say its hot its hot...and they wait. The Min Pins know the word "squirrel". I talk to them all the time. So they probly know alot more than I give them credit for.

Ha ha I tell my dogs to "go peepee" too! My boyfriend hates it because he says he doesn't feel manly saying it. He wanted their pee signal to be "make some yellow" but I thought that was just gross.

cat, oh no, she comes running. I have an alarm on my phone, that is her dinner bell. Chloe knows the time.

I use to say "treat" when Tucker performed a command correctly...Now I say it to get him back in the house after he goes pee/poop...he comes running into the house looking to see where his treat is at lol.

- Be nice- cue to bark viciously at threat (has been very handy even if I didn't teach it to him on purpose)

- Are you ready?- stands up and looks alert
- Look out!- look behind you because something is about to get you
- Hello! or Hi!- bark because someone is obviously here that he does not see
- Pretty- bark because I am talking to an animal that isn't him and he's very jealous
- Beach
- I'll be back- does not follow me to the door because he definitely isn't coming
There's more but these are the biggest ones, I think. haha.

Wow that's an impressive list! I'm lucky to be able to teach them the things they need to know. My husband taught them OOPS, which results in dogs underfoot in the kitchen, so I had to un-train him on that one. (husbands can be harder to train than corgis) Snickers has learned that mealtime is after I finish my breakfast and dinner. She knows when I am scraping the bottom of the bowl and comes sits by me and lets me know she is there, just in case I forgot.

I talk to Harrison like he's a 2 year old toddler. I explain everything to him and name things for him. Example "Bird Harrison. That's a bird" , I tell him this as bird has caught his attention. So now he knows bird, cat, puppy because of this method. My favorite phrase which is my go to when we're ready to go back inside and he isn't ... is saying "Harrison, where are you?" He instantly appears... it even works inside the house :)

I read somewhere that dogs recognized a couple of hundred words. I'm sure corgis, being the exceptionally breed, recognize even more :) Milly understands so many words like dinner, walk, beach, car, play and can differentiate with several different toys. Pink ball, flounder, doughnut she brings right away! The funny thing is that she understands some words in Serbian not English and vice verse and some words in both of the two languages, lol!

Effie knows a few... Haymitch is completely oblivious still... although they both know "go potty" Effie knows dinner, treat, here (I found myself saying it everytime I wanted her near me) frisbee, and toy. Which in her mind are the same thing. I found out a few days ago that she thinks "toy" is really just her frisbee, and not any plaything, bc I'll be sitting inside with her, and ask her to go get her toy, and she'll stand at the back door wanting to retrieve her frisbee! She also knows the phrase "Do you want it?" and "Go get it" when I ask" do you want it?", she gets all giddy, and "woofs" or "arps" at me, and practically bounces until I either give it to her (chewie, treat) or throw it.

Chloe associates the vacuum to many different phrases: "I have to clean." "Ewww there's a messy." "But I have too." She will bark incessantly. She knows Daddy and Mommy, kitty, gophy (gopher), lizard, oma, opa. Probably more. :)
