You can put a little bit of dog shampoo ( a few drops ) in a bucket of warm water and put a small hand towel in it. Take the towel out and wring off the water, leaving it just moist. Pass this over the dog, then rinse the towel and repeat as many times as needed to clean the coat. If the water gets dirty, change it. The towel will pick up much of the surface dirt.
I was going to say a dry shampoo for dogs also. I use to use one on my Irish wolfhound in the winter...really could only bath him with water in the summer when I could use the hose. IWs have an oily outer coat that I found I am allergic too and that did a pretty good job of cutting down on the oil. Wish I could remember the name of it but it was so many years ago.
I know this post is a bit old but I wanted to throw a homemade option out there in just in case. Baking soda can be safely used as a dry wash for dogs and people. Baking soda mixed well with pulverized oatmeal leaves a the coat shiny and deodorized as well. I tend to forgo the oatmeal mostly because blenders and I have a long and sordid love/hate relationship. :D However, I sometimes add large sprigs of fresh mint or rosemary to the baking soda bottle for a small bit of added fragrance. I keep an old spice bottle (like Mrs Dash, with the large openings) to store and shake onto the coat when I use it.
Hope Sammie is recovering well. <3
I agree that the dry dog shampoo or baking soda mixed with dog shampoo would be the best. I had a pump bottle for my cat that was oatmeal and not sure what else...it smelt very good and worked well.
Hi have you thought of trying unscented baby powder it gets rid of the grease and oil & smell and make sure you wipe off the residuale with a soft damp cloth!.
Good luck
Try using dry shampoo for humans. I get mine at the regular drug store like Walgreens' My favorite and least expensive brand is Suave dry shampoo spray. Just spray in and brush a little and it adds this cool citrus scent that lasts! Just look around in the shampoo section. I love this stuff.
