I live in a state that does not have very many corgis. I guess it's a rarity to ever see one in my city. I think so far, I've only ever seen ONE OTHER corgi, other than my own. LOL.
But for those who don't see or know much of corgis, they usually ask "what is your yorkie mixed with?"
Yorkie?!!
Nothing against yorkies, they are CUTIES pies too, but.... Well... i guess i COULD SEE a yorkie trait in him (if i didn't know him to be a corgi). He does have the pointy ears and short legs, but then that's about it.
I've also gotten asked if i mixed a yorkie and a brown/white malamute. LOL...
IF people didn't recognize what breed your dog was right away as a Corgi. What breed has your dog been mistaken for?
(but then of course, as soon as i say he is a Pembroke CORGI, they're all like, "OH... like Queen Elizabeth's DOGS??") LOL

I've been asked if Foxy is a sheltie and I can kind of see that too with the pointy ears and longer nose.
I don't know if they were serious or not, but I've had people say in passing that he was a fat dachsund. No one has said that to my face. Most people know what a corgi looks like.
i usually get "is he a mini German Shepard?"
I tell all new visitors to our house that Frosty is the latest thing in home security, a sawed-off shepherd lol! (I think I stole that from John actually ;)
My sawed-off shepherd alarm was just going off because the cat was at the window. I feel so safe...
The lady that runs our local Humane Society told my husband Frosty was the most gorgeous Sheltie she had ever seen lol.
I think he has been accused of being a mix of every other dog that has blue merle coloring. My standard response whenever people start talking about him is "No really, he is SUPPOSED to look like that!" I think a lot of people are confused because they don't realize there are two kinds of corgis, and most know only Pems, so the whole Cardigan thing really throws them off.
Yes! Where I live, everyone asks what kind of Corgi mix my puppy is, and I have to explain that there are two Welsh Corgi breeds, and Oscar is a purebred Cardigan. Either that, or because of his black and white coat, they think he's some kind of miniature Border Collie.
HaHa...try adding a tail to a Pembroke and the people that do know a bit think it's a Cardigan...at that point I have to intervene and tell them it's a Pem with a tail. Here in MN they either come running when they see a Corgi or have no clue what it is and don't ask.
The same thing happens with us! Cardigans are rare, but they're even more rare in Cape Town. Every time we walk Connor in the forest we always get "is he a Border Collie mix?" They look at us in pure disbelief when we tell them he's a Cardigan Corgi hahaha.
Most people either know she's a corgi, or have no idea. I get asked, "What kind of mix is your dog" a lot. The most common guess is German Shepherd mix or Dachshund mix.
Occasionally I get the folks that know what corgis are but have never seen a tricolor before and then give me the 3rd degree about what kind of "corgi mix" I have. And when I say she's purebred they sometimes give me a look that says they think I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Oh well! :)
I've had people say Max is a sheltie...he's a fully so I'm sure his red/white coloring and long coat confused them. If they see Katie most know what she is...if not by actual breed name they'll say "the queen's dogs." Yup.
