**Tom is back from the vet! He had two drains put in, one for each puncture wound.  In true corgi style he is still smiling! Thank you everyone for the well wishes!!!!**

(Tom asked that I not post a photo of his wounds so as not to reveal any corgi weakness ... he also says you should have seen what that pitbull looked like after the fight haha ... sure, Tom)

So on top of Tom's anxiety of being in a new state/home, today he got attacked by an off-leash pit bull at the park.  Some guy was walking his pit bull off leash at the park and from about 30 feet in front of us the pit bull went from walking to charging straight at Tom.  It was horrifying.  I don't know how long the attack lasted but I was in a complete panic, trying to pull Tom away.  My roommate finally was able to wrench the pit bull off.

The owner was very apologetic, but little good that did.  We took Tom to the vet immediately and he has two deep puncture wounds, one on his little leg and one on his chest area.  The vet gave him an antibiotic shot and I am taking him in tomorrow morning to have a drain put in the worser of the wounds.

Poor little guy was a champ though ... and when the offending owner came to look at Tom, Tom even kissed him on the face.  Tom is corgi-ing on, just one more story to highlight how ignorant people are that walk their dogs off-leash :(

As soon as Tom gets the vet's all clear, make sure you get him out and about so he gets his confidence back. Poor guy! And how scary for you.

Jack got attacked by a pittie who slipped his harness just to charge some distance and attack. Luckily the dog mis-judged the size of Jack's neck and didn't get a grip (he went straight for the back of the neck, too), and my husband was able to chase him off (though he kept coming).

Many terriers have extremely high prey drives but are sweet and loving with people. Their clueless owners put everyone (including their own dogs) at risk by not realizing the potential for danger.

Beth, you're absolutely right! The guy just kept saying how sorry he was and that it had never happened before...well of course, but there is always a first time! I'm so glad Jack made it through his encounter intact as well! ... and that in both cases the pits missed our little guys' necks!!

I agree with Beth and also think that with Pits the responsible owners take them to classes and train them well. I still will never forget the time I saw a man buying a prong collar for his pit:( I know it was to control and not train:(

I used a prong collar on Sage in our AKC classes at the instructors suggestion but of coarse that was put on only for training! I know of some people with very gentle pits...just like any dog...people need to invest the time to train!

:( so true.  This was a female and she looked fairy young - thank goodness or we probably wouldn't have been able to pull her off!

Oh my...so sorry! I know how scary this can be...so glad Tom keeps going! Hope he heals soon!

thanks, Jane!!! your well wishes are greatly appreciated! :)
