Tonight when my little Livvy came to the door after being out for an hour or two...I looked and couldn't believe what I saw...her nose was about 2 x's as big as usual...and of coarse she didn't want to come in so I had to bribe her...got the benadryl out and gave her her size dose...It still is somewhat swollen and I called the vet but it is sure nice to have this on hand for emergancies and it saved me an after hour visit to the vet...I believe she either bit a bee or wasp...I'll probably never know and I'm still watching her closely! It's just one of those "must have" thing corgi owners should have for allergic reaction!

Good point, Jane. I have a question: how do I know how much to give a 28 pound dog? How about my 45 pound mix? Do you have a chart or formula? I'd really appreciate it.
Hi Geri and Sidney,
I would double check with your vet so you could get the "for sure" amounts for each dog...I gave Livvy the childrens because that's what I had for my pups incase they had an allergic reaction to their shots...( 1 did after she left us) and I think I should have given Livvy more...so I also am going to check this am and write it down and tape it to my medicine cupboard....but I think I might get adult...I was sure glad I had it though!!!
I usually keep Children's Benedry Meltaways on hand for such an occasion. They are dose for children, which is about half of an adult size. Just pop them in their mouth and hold it shut. for a couple of seconds, less chance of them spitting them out. You can give them one adult pill, but it seems to make Duncan sleepy.
How big are they??? Sounds like another good option!
Sparty was stung years ago and manages to get stung every year. Unfortunately he now attacks bugs instead of running away. So far he has never swelled up but he sure is unhappy after. If I see the bees first I put him in the house or our trailer if we are camping. I am glad Livvy is ok!
Our vet says 1mg of benadryl per pound of dog; half that does if you are pre-treating before they have any symptoms.

This is the 2nd time this year Livvy was stung...(that 1 year old stage!!!!!) I'm worried because I know with people can become increasingly allergic with more bites...so I hope this is the last time at least for this year...if my pic shows up you can see the most swelling on the side opposite her tongue, she usually has a very slender nose......and I think I underdosed her with the benadryl last night!
Ahh poor Livvy!
My dog Boomer has had a few episodes where he has been bitten on the face by this or that creepy-crawlie. At least once was a spider and his face did swell up. The vet pointed me towards Benadryl. He's 37 pounds, so he said I could give up to two. I usually give him one and that seems to do the trick.
Was that one standard adult caplet, Craig?
It sure was.
Lucky I had some benedryl on hand also. Kari has a tendency to get stug on the nose and I think she tried to eat one and her whole mouth swelled up just like your pups. This stuff is a lifesaver.
