6 months to the day since Soffie's torn ligament
And I'm happy to report she's down to 32lbs.... and her knee is healing! We still are keeping a very close watch on her. And limiting her activity. But little by little she's getting back to her everyday activities.
We (Dawn and I) have had no regrets that we decided against surgery and opted for "conservative managment", restricting activity and working diligently to get her weight down from a hefty 39lbs.

All right Soffie! Glad all is going well! I thinks it's always good to go with the conservative management ...at least to try it before something more drastic!

That is great! We did the same thing and Sparty now seems perfectly normal. Long walks some jumping on low furniture, none of it bothers him any more. We also adjusting some of his activities that included really fast starts and stops and switched to games requiring less stress on the knees. I am glad to hear that Sophie is doing so well.

Yes... exactly as you say, adjusting the activity now is our main focus. Where Soffie had slept with me in my very tall bed, I now have the mattress right on the floor, so it's an easy "up" for her. This past sunday we re-entered the dog park and she did very well, stopping when I called her if she was looking like she might be doing too much.

That's great news! I'm glad Sophie is doing so well. My father in law's Pem is just about done recovering from the surgery on his 2nd ACL injury. The first leg was operated on a year ago. He's lucky he could afford to get the surgery twice but for those who cannot it's good to know that conservative management is an option.

Thanks Alice. We're not going to be overly confident. And from all we read her other knee may very easily suffer the same injury. So we're keeping her on a daily dose of Cosequin DS and probably won't ever let her activity return to full tilt!

We've had some success with a stepping-stool beside the bed, plus nonskid throw rugs around it on all takeoff/landing sites (slippery hardwood floor).
NOTE: Gwynnies seems to like this a LOT more since I put nonskid rubber on the stool's legs. It used to have slippery furniture glides, so it would slide on the wood floor.

yup... we've got those non skid throw rugs all over the place too! And, I've been looking at this set of steps, that double as a storage unit, to put at the end of my bed when I finally decide to put the mattress back in it's frame.

Glad to hear Soffie is doing well. I hope she continues to heal. And glad to hear about the weight, too. After hearing of several injuries here, including Soffie's, I have decided to keep my oversized Jack at a super-thin weight. He hasn't had a weigh-in in months, but I keep him so I can just see the faintest outline of rib. I'd rather he be two pounds underweight than the same overweight.
Soffie is lucky to have such involved, caring, Corgi "parents."
