I think this has come up before in other conversations.

Maddie loves being petted.  She likes nothing better than to cuddle up next to me or my husband on the couch.  If I stop petting her, she'll nudge me with her muzzle or paw (I usually ignore her til she's quiet when she does this, but it is cute).  She flips over for belly rubs.  She'll crawl on top of me if I'm home sick from work and lying on the couch.

But Jack, oh Jack!   He's like a six-year-old boy who has decided hugs mortify him.  He'll be laying there, looking soooo cute, and if I go up to give him a fussing, he'll frequently run backwards and look at me like "What the heck?!" and grab a toy to play.  If I get down on the floor to pet him, he runs for a tennis ball.  Once a week or so he'll come and lie on my lap for a nice long neck-rub.  He dislikes (but tolerates) being groomed.  Yet if we're out for a walk and someone stops to say hi, he's all over them giving kisses and trying to reach their face.  He's a therapy dog and loves his nursing home visits.

I have never met a dog so indifferent to physical affection!  If you do pet him, he prefers a good hard scratch on the backside or the top of the head to being stroked or fussed over.  He's such a boy!

I've gotten used to it, but when he gives me the eyes.....

...it's so hard to resist!

Who else lives with a dog who would rather play then get petted?  Silly dogs.

I love this photo, his eyes are so expressive. If it helps to know, as Sparty has gotten older he seems to enjoy being petted more. It is still not like Izzy who always wants it all the time but sometimes he actually nudges me. So there is still hope!
I'm hoping that as Jack mellows a bit with age, he gets more interested in petting. He's very sociable, and always right there where we are, just not concerned with the physical contact. If we've been working on training or something and he's been so good, I just have that human desire to give him a big ol' 'good boy' hug, and he has none of it! LOL
Everytime you talk about Jack, I think he and Bear could be brothers. Bear has just always been very independent. He'll tolerate my petting when he decides he wants to lay on the couch next to me. He sleeps in bed with me and when he FINALLY gets comfortable, if I reach over to pet him he grunts and goes to find another spot, if I try again, he gets on the floor. Goldy is my snuggle bug.
Lyla will tolerate petting, but doesn't enjoy it. She is very cautious be nature. Just today we were at obedience and I went to giver her a treat and she had to sniff it before she would eat it. The instructor just howled and said "wow, she thinks you're giving her a poison cookie!"
Awwwww, what an adorable picture!! Lance really didnt like being petted for long periods of time when he was little and now that he is older is enjoying being petted for longer periods of time. Just today after our company left, Lance sat with hubby for a half hour being petted, hubby was thrilled!
What a great picture :)

Both of ours love to be cuddled and touched. Mickey, our oldest s literally like a baby and wants to be held and cuddled and will fall asleep like that. People are amazed by it all the time. I am glad they are cuddly.
Lance has always enjoyed being cuddled...since we had him at 14 weeks old. I would hold him like my baby all the time and he loved it. Hubby will still pick him up and cuddle me but I worry about his back, now that he is sooo long. Lance cuddles with me when I lay on the couch, he makes himself very comfy in the crook of my legs, I love it!
I wish my little corgi would cuddle up while I'm awake. She'll sneak up onto my pillow while I'm sleeping, but if she sees my eyes open, she's off! I guess it's embarrassing to be caught cuddling with mommy. If I am the only human at home, she will lie down on my lap for a while. Not if there are any witnesses. I'm glad I still have a spaniel to cuddle, or I'd feel completely unloved :(
Nibbler is kinda the same way. She will sit there and look at me and if I reach to pet her she immediately runs for a toy so I will throw it! Sometimes she will be lying on the floor and if I come up and pet her she seems to like it and will roll over for a tummy rub. Or every now and then, especially when I'm sick or if I'm taking a nap, she'll cuddle. But in general during the day she would much rather play than be pet. I'm so used to "velcro" dogs that want to be pet all the time that this was a little surprising at first, but I approach it like this. If playing at some times and cuddling at other times is what helps our bond grow and makes her a happy little dog, then it makes me happy too, and I now try to approach playing the same way as I do petting and cuddling.
Though, I do admit, before I throw her toy sometimes, I have her "sit" and "stay" so I can get a few pats in before I throw it :).
This photo startled me. Jack looks so much like Lucy...those big dark eyes. Who was Jack's breeder. Wonder if they're related.
Happy Valentines Day to you and your beautiful corgis.
PS Lucy tolerates my petting, but would much rather run and play. She snuggles best when we're going to sleep. I'm embarrassed to admit that I actually taught her to snuggle by rewarding her with a treat. Ditto for kisses. I'm not above bribery! haha!
Ha ha. My husband (incidentally another Jack!) walked into the room and your Jack's picture was up on my screen. He thought it was Lucy. But, Jack has a little sable, no? Other than that, very similar. Is Jack a big corgi? Lucy is petite, maybe 20 lbs.
