Corgi question #3: Does anyone else have a corgi that is obsessed with catching roaches? I guess many people don't live around them, but our dog loves to go out on our back deck at night and chase them down. He gets all excited like he's on a major hunting expedition. The gross thing is that he eats them when he catches them. My last dog was a golden who never even noticed insects... I guess corgis are closer to the ground so they are more attuned to the movement there!

omg, I would be careful about catching them and eating them. Can't they potentially carry lots of bacteria? They say roaches can outlast a nuclear war so they must be able to carry all kinds of disease and such.

Not many roaches in CT. Maybe too cold.

They're not more bacteria-filled than any other bug, actually. I'd be more concerned about the poisons in/on them because they're so hated.
Penny discovered June Bugs last night. I HATE the sound they make but Penny thought it was the best thing since...she even chased it over by the dreaded lawn mower and didn't even flinch at the site of the mower! She chased that thing all over the yard and YEP I'm pretty sure she caught it and ate it at some point.
I've seen on TV beagles that make money by working with exterminators to find termites and bed bugs. So you may have a potential money-maker here. We watched a beagle touch the wall where there was supposedly a bug, saying "termite," and getting a treat each time. Well, we figured he had quite a scam going on there, since no one but the beagle himself smelled the termite. Still, a corgi could probably make a pretty good living at this.
here in SC there are all kinds of critters...eww! the cats and teddy all wait at night on the sun porch for a bug or lizard to walk by, they all fight over it like its a treat lol once teddy gets it he parades around the house like "look i got a prize" (untill i take it away lol) he will chew it n then just spit it on the floor, the cats on the other hand just eat them like its a late night snack -_-
Here lately, the japanese beetles have been coming out of the ground in the evening. Lucky and Ren run around finding them and crunching them up.

We had a bit of excitement a few nights ago when Ren bounded up and spat a toad out upon the porch. Much fun was had by all as it hopped around before I could rescue it. Tag was especially interested. I scooped him up before he met his end and put him in the front yard. The next night he was found near the dog waterer which is under a security light. Some research shows he's not harmful to the dogs. They've seen him a few times now and always are facinated by him. Tag touches him with her nose and when he jumps, she jumps back. It's pretty comical. Ren, of course, barks at the toad with his squeeky toy/smoke alarm bark. Fun with toads!
Yoda does that too! He is a good roach hunter! Surprisingly, Yoda has stayed healthy...
Centipedes here. Tasha is merciless. Linus is merely observant. Bear protects us from cats. All the best from Williamsburg, VA: Nancy
I love Williamsburg! I've been going there almost every summer for the past 12 years as a curriculum writer for Colonial Wmburg. You have very cute corgis and I love their names. :)
Tracker's guilty pleasure seems to be little racer snakes. He doesn't hurt them, just stands over them with his ears forward and barks in sharp, staccato barks. They just freeze until hes called off.
Goldy got the crap scared out of her the other night when she saw her first lightning bug. She was happily walking along and one right in front of her lit up and she jumped and barked and frapped around the yard. One of the funniest things I have ever seen.
our corgi girl Keri is a fly freak instead of cock roaches!!she'll chase them outside forever!!also, she's got the knack to sniff out garter snakes no mater where we are also.
