Exhaustion
My corgi Einstein refuses to stop playing, even if he is too exhausted to play! Even after we take him running at the dog park every day he still wants to try and play when we get home. When he finally calms down his little heart is beating so fast and his little body is just shaking because he's breathing so hard. Is this normal? Should we stop playing with him when we think he's tired? Because he won't stop until he just falls over.

This is pretty normal and you could try giving him a break in his crate if you use one. They like children can't judge (they may never) when they need a break! You will want to be careful though that he doesn't think it's a punishment for something.

Our Chepstow is the same way and he will be 5 next month. He will run and swim until his tongue is almost falling off. We have decided his tired button is broken. We stop him when we think he is exhausted and tired. We bring him in the house and make him stop playing usually just ignore him. Sometimes we will lay down in bed because he will alway jump in the bed for a nap.

Stanley can be this way at times. I usually just ignore him and when he realizes I'm serious about not wanting to play anymore, he usually goes to take a nap. He's also OBSESSED with fetch so I have to make sure I pick up his toys off the ground. Otherwise he'll just keep bringing them to me to throw. If there's nothing on the ground to throw, he usually just relaxes to take a nap.

I finally taught Sparty "no go play" as a command because he could not shut it off! When I say it he lays down with a big sigh. You just have an active corgi with a working temperament and he needs lots of walks and stuff to do. The couch potatoes are easier but not as much fun.

We have a couch potatoe (due to shoulder problems) and it is nice. But Bev is right our active corgi is more fun. Sometimes I wish we never taught him fetch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our fierst corgi, Odie, was the same so we taught him " kennel up", but had to put him in the kennel and close the door because he could not stop! Lucky was the same way, would play ball 24/7, I now miss those days and wish they were back since he can only seal walk. With his new wheels I am hoping that he will be able to play again (limited). Sonny never learned to play at all, we rescued him a year ago and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to teach him to play!

Our quiet dog was also a rescue. We have tried every game in the world to make him play. He will sometimes catch a ball, but drops it. He watches his brother play all day and just doesn't seem to care. Once in a while they will chase each other around the yard. He is happy to watch, today with a temp of 95 he is the smart one.

Davey also won't stop unless we make him stop. Sometimes he gets so tired from constant play he gets cranky, like a toddler. If we ignore him for a while he gets the message and takes a small nap...and then is ready to go again!

Charlie is the same way! After a long 40 minute walk, his tongue is so long, so thirsty, so hot, so tired but he just keeps going until he just drops! I think it's ok because by the next day and after a long nights sleep, he is ready to go again =]
