a little victory for us
I've been working hard to make my 3 corgis sit at the door and WAIT for the okay to come inside. This has been most important because, well, there are 3 of them and they can create quite a traffic jam at the door. Also, people go first, right?
Tonight, I had the 3 of them in a sit and wait at the door and they all sat perfectly still while the cat, Loretta, casually took her time walking around all 3 of them and then --with several stops including one to lick a paw--finally into the house. It was amazing and wonderful and i praised them so much that my husband came to the door to see what was going on!
Persistence really is our friend with these corgi kids, isn't it? :)

I'm working on this also but have a ways to go with 5 and an aussie, Sage my young one is still thinking she can try to run out...we'll get there...someday! Glad for you!

I love your pictures of your gang. I think we'll stop at 3 but it's always tempting to add another when puppy fever strikes!
It's taken us months of waiting at the door practice and I'm so proud of the boys. that cat wandering among them was pretty darn tempting.

Today a guy running for city council paid a visit to our house. Jack let Lucy and Rafa out to greet him and get their opinion of the guy. Then when it was time for the guy to leave and canvas other neighbors, Rafa wanted to go with him. It was quite a comedy trying to get Rafa to come back in the house. The guy had to come back in our house, and Rafa was still waiting for him to come out. The guy said Rafa's too smart to trick. He obviously will get all of our votes!

My vote is for Rafa! surely she should run for city council along with this guy - imagine all the votes this guy would get if he would go door to door with that way cute little corgi in tow!!!

You are so right about persistence! Sometimes things click quickly but most things take a long time to really train with our corgi baby. And then there is the faking us out. "I don't remember what that cue/word means, but perhaps I will if you have some cheese...."

WOW! It's enough that they did the sit and wait, but then to have the cat walk around them and lick a paw...I would say that was a milestone!
Jeremy has been working with our two, Lucky is very good with the sit and wait (it helps that he cannot get up and walk!) but Sonny tries to barrell on in, usually running over Lucky. Every once and a while the light bulb comes on in Sonny's brain and he does the wait and sit, and then runs over Lucky!
Persistence, you are right!

For me , the hardest was being consistent and making sure that all 3 were really sitting down to wait. They can do the "musical chairs" version and get up and down one at a time! I think it helps that the cat is incredibly alpha and truly rules the 3 corgis.
The first time they saw her with a lizard that she had caught, they got a little more respect for her. In fact, i think you could see them saying to each other...whoa, she can kill, watch out! She's so much smaller than the boys but what an attitude.
That wait command is really helpful in a lot of situations, though.
