Debbie & I are wondering would Maggie get along better with a male or female Corgi puppy?

My thought is not so much the sex of the pup but it's personality. If Debbie is spayed and your new one will eventually be I think either would be ok! When Maggie goes places and meets dogs does she seem to prefer one over the other? Or also watch as to what types of personalities she tend to play with more. Is she submissive or outgoing?
Debbie is my wife, Maggie is our Corgi. She (Maggie) is only shy around large dogs. She is very friendly & outgoing with same sized dogs. You sound like you are a mega Corgi lover. Debbie & I hope to emulate you one of these days.
I am soooo sorry Debbie! I got it right the 2nd time but the first I must have had been trying to think what I was going to say! I do find that my 2 unspayed females have a few more issues but nothing terrible! A breeder might be able to help you with the puppies personality...I also encourage the "owners to be" when picking a pup to see which one of them is picking you and giving you the attention as I believe this is a sign from them! Good luck on your choice, are you hoping to get one soon? I added 1 every year for 4 years and now I need to spend some more time with Livvy(adolescent years) before I get another one...hopefully next spring!
In very broad terms, a male and female are more likely to get along, but again the personality of the two dogs is the most important issue.

My experience is that when I hear of people who have two dogs and they absolutely hate each other, it's usually two females. However, there are plenty of people who have more than one dog of the same sex that do just fine.

If you have one female, my first choice would be an easy-going male that complements your existing dog's personality. Talk to the breeder, be totally honest about your existing dog (now would not be the time to sugar-coat any issues) and let the breeder help you pick a pup.

Good luck!
We have three dogs. One male Brittany, Maggie (our female cardi) and a female English Setter. If I were you, I would definitely choose a male to add to your household. When we have issues, it is almost always between the two girls. Female cardis tend to be a more assertive than their male counterparts (I can't speak for the pemis). We will probably always have three dogs, but when the time comes we will have two males and one female. Keep us posted.
We have Gem(1yr) and Edward(6mos). I would definitely go with a male. If you are worried whether or not their personalities will click, shop around until you find a male with the personality that complements Maggie. I love my little Gem to pieces but she is the boss between the two of them and the one that is more uptight about situations. We have had 2 males and 1 female, not all at once, always female-male combo and in my experience the males are much easier going, and clownish then the females we have seen or our own!! Good Luck!!
The most important thing is complimentary personalities but male / female is a typically good match. Talk to the breeder about your dog's personality. I did and she matched mine perfectly even though my older male is not always great with others.
As everyone else has said, it certainly depends on individual dogs, but male and female seem to do great together. I have a male and female pair (both spayed/neutered) and they do terrific together! They play together, lick each other, and have a great bond between them. On the other hand, my female corgi and my female border collie have some issues. Not severe ones, but they do growl at one another in some situations and can get annoyed at the others' presence. They certainly put up with each other, it's not like they absolutely hate each other, but two females can be a little more dicey than a male and female. Then again, for most of my life I've had two female dogs at a time and they've all done fine, so it really does depend on the individuals. Good luck!
