Max was not happy being back in THAT PLACE but he had no reaction when the vet was touching the incision or even when he pulled out a broken stitch. The biopsy was more or less inconclusive. It was not attached to anything, did not have a blood supply...which would indicate cancer. The fluid they felt was from inflammation from a puncture. It's not in an area where they get vaccinations nor is it where he gets needles for acupuncture. I asked if he could be from a rose bush...he said maybe. Rose thorns can cause infections in humans...I am always careful to wash any puncture I get when I am working around them. It's possible he got into them along the front fence. But the lab felt that the removal of it should take care of any problems. So...since I have a basically happy and healthy boy I am not gonna worry about it until I need to...but I will check him often and carefully from now on. Stitches come out next Thursday
I also have to give a 2 thumbs up on those E-Collars. The inflatable ones that look like a doughnut. I know most of us have dealt with those plastic cones and with our low riders they get caught on every change in floor, they chip the woodwork and bruise the back of our legs. Not to mention that our poor babies can't eat or drink easily with them on. We laugh and say he looks like he is going swimming. But he has no problem eating or drinking. He has no problem going up or down the ramp we have for him. It makes a nice cushy pillow for sleeping and I don't have any bruises. He doesn't fight it and at this point I think he thinks it just a new type of collar. Comments I read said it's not good for tall dogs but reviews were good for short dogs and I have to totally agree.

Awwww, so glad things appear "normal". I'm sure you are too. I love what you wrote about the collar...I might have to invest in one just incase I ever need one as I spent over 2 months with Wynn running into my legs...on purpose????
Wow, that sure sounds like a relief!
Will look for these inflatable collars if & when the time comes for Cassie & Ruby.
Jane....I can't say enough about the E-collar. I went thru the plastic cone with Arnie and it was miserable for him and me. I got it on Amazon at about half the cost in a pet store and if you have Amazon Prime it's free 2 day shipping. When he is done with it I can deflate it, wash the cover and pack it away for future use if necessary. The one I got is a Kong, I got the large...Max weighs 35 lbs and is a fluffy tho I had him cut very short in preparation for the surgery. For Katie who goes 28 lbs I think I would get a medium.
Thank you to all of you for the good thoughts for Max. He is my boy and knowing that he is in his senior years always makes my heart skip a beat when I realize I won't have another 10 years with him. I just downloaded a book titled "Good Old Dog" by vets and researchers from Tufts University on living with and caring for your aging dog. I read part of it last night and it's written so your average lay person can understand it. It talks about the advances in animal health care and just how plain to live with your senior dog...diet, exercise, health care....so that both of you are happy and fulfilled.
Thanks for the info Linda...with Teddy about 11 and Wynn over 9...I wonder where the time has gone! Even though they are healthy for their age...I know how fast things can change.
Good news! I may need to pick up that book. Maddie is almost 10 but seems a bit older; not sure if it's her seizure meds or whatever caused the seizures to begin with, but we definitely have had to modify our expectations of what she can and can't do.
Beth....this is the book. If you have a kindle I'm sure it would be cheaper. I downloaded from Pixel of Ink and got it for $2.99 but I think that price is only good for a couple more days if you are a member. It talks about how different dogs age at different rates and even those can be different depending on the particular dog.

Linda-
That is wonderful news about Max. Thank you also for information about the book. I can't believe Noodles turned 9 just a little bit ago. Time seems to be flying by.
Glad to hear that all is well.
