That's awesome Jane. It has to make you feel good. I can wait to start that journey with Ein.

Sage went to work with me again today and she is so gentle when she visits a lady there...much gentler than I expected! She just lays with this woman and lets the lady pet her.

Baron has been helping with my mother-in-law who is also a hospice patient.  My wild puppy lays on the bed with her and gives lots of doggie kisses.

Ein and I went to our very first obedience class today, and she far exceded my expectation. I look forward to doing our homework tomorrow. Yay!

thank you Teresa:) i went to the red cross yesterday and they said they were in dire need of therapy dogs. theres a lady who runs it and said she will put him through a course to see if its right for him. if he passes he will will be certified. if not then she will put me through a class and see how he does and then go from there

Rebecca, You might want to contact the local hospice agencies in your city.  There are several that use hospice therapy dogs on their team.  I work as a Hospice RN and Baron has already started to see my patients while in training.

Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I just joined this group. I have a 4 month old pembroke puppy who will be attending her very first training class on Sunday. I recently heard about therapy dogs and thought it would be a wonderful way to spend my free time. We have a long road ahead of us, but it will be a journey we'll take together and hopefully bond over.

If the dog is actually certified, it will depend on the hospital's policy, you will have to ask them at the hospital you're interested in working at. Some hospitals do not want dogs there at all, depending on the severity of the illnesses and how they believe a dog would affect them. I think you may have to call and ask if you can take your dog to the childrens cancer wards, tell them you don't want to go to the immuno-compromised children's rooms, tell them that you'll keep the dog extremely clean and well groomed when you visit, even go so far as to not let him walk on the ground, carry him or make him wear booties until he gets into the hospital... If they approve of therapy dogs, then you're probably good to go :)

does anyone know if once your dog is certified can u bring them into children's hospitals? i really want to bring smiles to kids when they see teddy and his corgi smile. especially to the ones who have cancer and leukemia
