Hey all, Ace has been a wonderful student so far with his clicker training and I have decided to try and graduate to intermediate behaviors in order to challenge him. One trick I'd like to teach him is "prance" - that is, the bouncy, feet picked-up gait that you can sometimes see in rhythmic obedience. The problem is, I know how to teach this to dogs with "normal" legs, not so much for Ace's dwarf stumps.
Have any of you had success in teaching a corgi to prance? Free-shaping…
ContinueAce is now coming up fast on his seven-month birthday and weighs "just" 7.5 kg (or 16.5 lb). I am a little concerned as he is from the USA and the AKC standard calls for a minimum weight of 30 lb for males, ideally. I understand that he's far from fully grown and that it could take up to 2 years for him to fill out, but he is noticeably smaller than other male Cardis we saw at his age.
WRT his weight in proportion to his frame, he is at a really great size - pressing slightly…

It has been a good month now since we've had Ace, and he has made a lot of progress with us. He's still quite aloof and will only wag his tail when he's A) seeing Mom & Dad for the first time in the morning, and B) herding the cats. I had a Basenji when growing up and even though she had that famous double curl tail, it still shook furiously whenever I did the high-pitched PUPPY! voice. Ace couldn't care less about what voice or funny moves I put on for him; he remains rather neutral to…

I am having a blast with my little turd of a Cardigan, Ace. He is waddling around the flat, dodging the stink eye-stares of the cats, and is pretty much in love with both my husband and me. But if there's one thing he doesn't do, it's play with toys.
Kong stuffed to the brim with peanut butter (which is a pain to find here in France) and treats, a brightly colored tug rope, squeaky fuzzy animals of various shapes, you name it and this dog doesn't want to have anything to do…

Oh lawdy lawd. I have been waiting for this day for over six months and let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen, there is nothing like watching a corgi puppy wriggle his way around, when you know it's YOURS!
Ace has been a fantastic little gentleman straight from the get go. He miraculously didn't soil his crate, although his ravenous hunger and heightened thirst would explain it. He barely made a peep when he was in the storage hangar. His human mother, father and uncle on the…

I was supposed to welcome Ace on the 31st of August. Now it looks like I'll have to sit tight and wait until the 3rd of September, and not for any other reason than the fact that the vet offices filled out the forms in black, not blue, ink. If there were ever any reason to hate the bureaucratic red tape and paperwork hellishness of importing a dog, it's this one.
I don't even know why it needs to be in blue ink. For other zones, blue is preferred, but they'll take…

Just came home from the World Dog Show in Paris. What an amazing experience! The last time I went to a dog show, it was in an exposition hall back in Hawaii, in the 90s. Needless to say, this show was bigger by several orders of magnitude.
It was inspiring to see not just beautiful animals, but the people who loved and cherished them so very much. You could just feel the hopeful and happy energy buzzing throughout the place. And what a huge place it was. By the end, my legs…
