Long break w/o any updates

Eddy and I had a fabulous summer, which ended with a 2 week Alaskan vacation.  I finally uploaded the photos of him from that trip.  I was sooo nervous about flying with him, but he did not seem traumatized or anything at all when we got off in Alaska, and then wasn't freaking out either in the airport on the return flight.  So now I know, he is a fly-OK corgi.  We met my sister's corgi, Andy, for the first time, which is half Eddy's age and size.   Very teeny.  He was SUPER cute,…

Eddy Update, Happy Healthy, all that good stuff!

I'm working and going to school full time, but Eddy and I are both happy and healthy. Everyone comments on how well-behaved, smart, and mild-mannered he is when they come over or witness how obedient he is on off leash trips. He has mellowed out in terms of his ferocious mischief-causing rebeldom :) We keep up with each other though and are a perfect match, both requiring lots of exercise, water, and sleep.

He gets along with all types of doggies, and he's turned out to be quite the… Continue

The one annoying thing about Eddy...

He glues himself to dogs playing fetch. If an interesting-looking (to Eddy) dog is waiting for its owner to throw a ball, Eddy will bark non-stop at this dog until the owner finally throws the ball. Then, he chases the dog to the ball but doesn't try to nab the ball or anything, he just chases the dog to the ball and then runs back to the owner. He does this over and over, it's so annoying! Well, annoying for the owner/other dog because they're just trying to play fetch and this corgi won't…

Now I know why I don't go to the park in the mornings! Long, angry RANT!

Because it's full of crazies I guess! Oregon has the leash law, but at this park I have been going to for well over a year, everyone seems to always have their dogs off leash, even outside of the designated dog park. No one has ever admonished me for it, and I've never heard of anyone being yelled at for it at this particular park. Even when Eddy was a puppy and still jumped up on people, no one cared as they encountered us on walks. Anyways, it was boring in the dog park so we went out on…

So mad at my vet clinic!

Our vet sends out annoying emails all the flippin' time, announcing anything from pointless to informative. Well they didn't email us letting us know that the clinic is under new ownership and they started carrying all new brands of food and parasite preventative!!! So they don't carry Sentinel anymore, instead they want me to buy into their multi-combo-drugs method which is OF COURSE like $40 more. I utilize natural remedies as well; I already hate giving Eddy 1 chemical a month and they…

Herding and beach

Eddy did his intro to herding class yesterday! The sheep totally stood up to Eddy and scared him! The sheep saw this tiny corgi come into the pen and knew he was a joke and they wouldn't budge. They were staring him down and stomping their hooves. It was pretty funny... so not much herding really happened. Eddy turned and started barking angrily at the instructor at one point, too... He was more focused on keeping his eye on her than the movement of the running sheep. So it was a stange…

Herding tomorrow! EEeeek!

Tomorrow I'm taking Eddy to a herding class to experiment herding sheep and ducks. He's never taken any sort of obedience training or puppy class or anything before. I guess we'll just see if he enjoys it and go from there... The proprietor said her method is really for independent-minded dogs who work well on their own without reinforcement. Sounds exactly like Eddy! Another corgi-owner I know went to the herding thing and didn't like it. She didn't like how independent the dog's job was,…

Eddy's been bit

I really would like to continue going to my dog park despite recent attacks and incidents that have happened because Eddy has so many friends that go there. But Eddy was bitten the other day by a dog who was, assumedly, one of his friends. It is a 2 year old (neutered, before anyone asks) german shepherd mix. This dog has played with Eddy many times and is always gentle and calm. It's a lazy dog that usually lays around. They walked by each other and the dog struck Eddy, one bite, no…

violence at my dog park, very sad.

Weather's been nice and I've been less busy so Eddy and I can explore the park more often. Today a 7month old golden retreiver puppy was attacked (and bled) by an aggressive unneutered dog, I don't know what kind, maybe a mastiff/pit bull mix. The mean-dog-owner even tried to claim that it was the PUPPY that attacked the other dog. Anyways it mauled its face and we all argued about it, colorful language and all... finally the guilty party left, with no justice for the golden retreiver.. The…

Not crating again+Treat on nose

We're back to leaving Eddy running free while we're gone. It's been about a month, and so far, no issues. We even did a ton of cleaning and re-arranging, and it still didn't seem to incite chewing. Usually he goes crazy when the environment is ruffled. Maybe the puppy chewing is over, but we're still looking out for general destruction. Of course we try to leave him sleepy, full, and surrounded by favorite playthings. Hopefully that's enough and we don't run into deeper problems.…

Not much to report

Eddy got accidentally mauled by a big lab at the park and has been limping since it happened. There is no grave injury I'm sure, the leg is completely mobile and he's been running and playing and everything. We've been leaving him out of the crate when we're not here, well, trying it again. Nothing bad has happened yet...

Eddy's acting totally crazy but my vet says don't worry

Today it rained tons, maybe something worse is in the forecast? You know how some dogs act crazy when its stormy, when there's lots of activity in the air.

Well Eddy usually excitedly runs around, barks, whines, and hides, in high anxiety and high energy (like how a Jack Russel is 24/7). Or he sleeps through it and never knows. But today I came home from school and my room mate said he'd been acting crazy for the past hour, and it was true. He is shaking like he has Parkinson's… Continue

Back to potty training I guess.

Eddy's started going to the bathroom in the house again. So frustrating. Didn't even bark at the door, just went #1 and #2 in front of it. Sigh.

Eddy will be 1 next month

Eddy's 1st b-day is coming up. Lately he has been heavily targeted by aggressive male dogs at the park. It's as if they are magnetized to him, cannot leave him alone endlessly, and finally get frustrated or something? and attack. Eddy is more into "flight" than "fight" - he does not fight back, defend himself, or "get revenge" afterwards. Eddy ends up getting hurt, and whoever the owner is apologizes profusely and doesn't know what's come over their dog, and they leave usually. The… Continue

Some dog tore up Eddy's ear :( I'm going to rant angrily.

It's really not that bad, and I don't know which dog at the park did it. Eddy always wrestles and chases with multiple dogs. Sooo I guess some dog tore his ear up a bit. He didn't ever yelp or run away or anything... And I didn't even notice until we got home. But it's a big one-inch gash on the inside of his ear, near the base, and it was oozing fresh blood, and there are chunks of skin still hanging around. This isn't the first time, but it's the most severe wound so far. Always on his big… Continue

What Eddy has destroyed

Is this normal for my corgi pup? In the past 3 weeks, he has chewed on the trim in 2 places in the house through the paint down to the wood........ chewed a hole in the linoleum by the front door down to the concrete (in like 7 minutes!!!)............ severed 2 (not live) wires of electrical accessories....... destroyed a laptop charger (again, not plugged in at the time).

I've responded by excersizing him more, trying to teach him more fun tricks, reaffirming obedience through… Continue

Crazy dog these days / this dog day care: weird or not?

Eddy has been acting like a crazy dog for the past couple weeks. He is definately going through some phase. Very rambunctious, vocal and disorderly. I have been smothering him with affection, and spoiling him with trips to his friends' houses. I think it's working. He has mastered "roll over" and is almost done with "shake". What should I teach him next? He doesn't like to "beg" or "stand" or "dance"; he's really bad at maneuvering on just his back legs.

I walked down to a dog… Continue

Arguing about exercise

I have been having an argument with my boyfriend about how often / how much to exercise Eddy. I feel like 45 minutes a day, in the form of a walk, is the minimum. However, I try to aim for 1.5 hours, split into two. I like to take him to one of the many nearby parks to play and run every day. And if we both work, and are forced to leave Eddy home, completely alone, for awhile, like 3-6 hours, I will even take him to a park twice on those days. I think it's only… Continue

Eddy plus large-breed dogs.. Sigh.

It seems to be that Eddy doesn't really like to play with smaller or even similar sized dogs, like basset hounds, various medium terriers, weener dogs, etc. He truly prefers playing with biggies like shepherds, danes, pits, etc. Of course he will play for EVER with any breed puppy, just because he is also a puppy, but when it comes to adult dogs, he goes for the larger ones.

And their owners are so worried Eddy is going to get mauled or trampled... and I'm like, yes he… Continue

All moved in

We're moved into the new place. It's not put together, and the old place still needs cleaning. There is so much more room in the new apartment! We never know where Eddy is. Upon moving in, Eddy has developed some new and undesirable habits. I expected some naughtiness to arise because we neutered him and moved in the same week. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

He loves to chew on his new roomate's stuff - my best friend, whom Eddy never lived with. Sad for… Continue
