We have never been to a dog park and I am always reading here about how some owners ignore their dogs. Yesterday we saw it first hand. We have a nice dog park, acres of forest to just run and play, with a large round about out front, which is very close to the rear entrance of a busy shopping center.
As we drove into the shopping center out of the corner of my eye I saw a black and white cardigan just a few feet from the drive way. I yelled at Roger turn around there is a corgi. We turned around and drove down to the entrance part of the dog park. We got out of the truck and she came running over to us, (Hi, you came to see me)
She had a tag with her name, address and phone. We looked all over for some frantic owner calling for her. Roger started to call the number when I saw a gentleman sitting on a bench behind some trees reading. I walked over and ask if he was her owner. Yes he was, and I told him she was just a few feet away from the shopping center driveway. He responded with she usually doesn't roam up that way.
We told him we were corgi owners and were concerned when we saw her. He didn't say thanks for stopping. We could have taken her, or she could have been hit by a car.
How could anyone just let their dog roam in a public place?

Sadly, the more you interact with other dog owners, the more you realize just how negligent MANY of them turn out to be, and why so many dogs end up in shelters or suffering worse fates.
When I'm in town with Sage(not at a dog park) I don't let her get further than 15' away! I guess I just don't understand how people can let their dogs just wander:( Sage is not used to life in town and that's fine but for her(or any of mine) I want to be able to get them to me fast!
