She is so cute! I do hope everything works out okay! I hate to think about irresponsible people getting dogs without doing their research first. I did a ton of research and still had a bit of shock steeling myself for the stubborn that is a Corgi! Good luck and keep us updated!!

Jane, yes I would let animal control know that if someone turns in a Corgi to contact you. I would just make clear that the dog is neither neglected nor abused, but you are concerned the owner just might get frustrated enough with puppy antics to voluntarily give up the dog.

Do you have your owners sign a contract stating that they must surrender to you if they can't keep the dog? Our puppy contract had that contingency, and while it's tough to always enforce it, I think it's a good idea to include it. It also sets expectations for the owner up front.

No I only verbally let them know this! And I will call animal control. I am also going to email her and let her know again that I would want to take her back (I've said this everytime I've talked to her) but I'm also going to gently suggest that if the pup doesn't stop it would be in the best interest for her to be returned...etc. I really wonder if she and her daughter really even play with poor little Dottie(now Rosie) I think that might be part of the problem too...I'd suggest that I would take her home with me for a couple weeks but I know I could never give her back...I just don't think she "gets it"....I feel so bad for poor Dottie ...Thanks for all your input Beth!

Well I just emailed this woman and tried very carefully to suggest some things and to make sure I knew she really cared but maybe now wasn't the right time for a puppy...I offered to stop in and see her as I will be going though her town on Tues.Honestly I don't think she'd take time for a class...I did ask if the pup was getting exercise to run off all the puppy pep. I plan on calling her Tues. also and I will call animal control also...I hope she sees the light! Yes I also did say I would give her a partial payment( I figured for spaying that kind of thing) but didn't go into detail.. I just feel so bad...she was such a mellow pup! And yes I think the child has the same upbringing as my (her) poor puppy...

Well...I emailed this woman and offered her some $$$ to buy the dog back...keep your fingers crossed and say some prayers! I told he I would have the cash with me and would call her Tues. as I will be going through her town...so I can be hopeful that she might decide this would be ok...but then again ...

when I started my 2nd puppy search the 1st thing I did was call Jordan's Breeder up and ask about litters.She stated she was not going to breed any litters for awhile. But she had a male looking for a home. She said that his 1st owners broke contract and that she had to get a lawyer, go to court, police ended up going into the 1st owners home to remove him. I don't know which part of the contract was broken. And thats why she wasn't breeding for awhile she stated that it left a terrible taste in her mouth and it wasn't as easy to find good homes as 1 would think. So it sounds like you could get this pup back through the legal system.

That's a great idea unfortunatly I don't think I could afford a big legal battle...BUT...I do happen to know the judge in this county owns 2 or 3 corgis!!!!! I am hoping this woman will get sick of this... this has been the 3rd or 4th problem so I am hopeful that she will think about this and think it's a good idea to sell her back...I have someone that could be interested but can't have a dog under 1 year old...so we'll see or I guess!

Perhaps you could offer to work with her to redirect the behavior if she is nearby? This would allow you to observe the issues and teach her (and the children) how to work with the dog. I do hope the pups went on a return contract. We surely know that many folks wait until the issue gets far out of hand before they decide there is a problem. A dog with a bite history may have a difficult future.

Just tell the mom not to let the kids play with puppy unsupervised and to do some training. If she sounds like she doesn't have the time to do it, well it's obviously not the right time for her to get a dog and she should give it back to you.
I personally think that 2 little kids and a puppy is a little bit too much.

UPDATE: Well I went to see Rosie(Dottie) tonight...(Thanks Sam for the suggestion to work with them) I had called and things were ok and she did not want to give the pup back...I called her a 2nd time and said " I'm coming right through your town, could I stop and see Rosie?" She was more than glad to have me stop in...of coarse...I had to quick go get her a treat...they were waiting outside and I could see she wasn't great on the leash but not terrible.I got her a martingale collar and a rubber chew toy for hiding treats. We worked on...sit, walking(with the child too),down(lay)and things went pretty well. Rosie is a beautiful young lady with a beautiful and you could see how fast she caught on to things...so hopfully this helped and we are planning more visits like this(I live 90 mi. from her) and to meet at a dog park sometime...that would be a little closer. The mother was very happy and said "you can stop in any time I'm home" so I'm feeling much better and Rosie is very outgoing and friendly...definatly doesn't lack any treats,toys or a comfortable home!
