Just curious, how do you all deal with shedding?  Do you brush?  Have your little one groomed?  And what DOESN'T work for shedding?

Thanks!

I brush and have a rake comb-- but also take them to the groomers -- and I just got me a fluffy boy now and wow he is beautiful and I know I got my work cut out for on this one.. So any advice on a fluffy corgi??
When I first got Max I was told that they shed twice a year. Like a fool I believed it. What they didn't tell me is it's from January to May and June to December. I learned about the furminator. Love it! I still have them groomed about 4 times a year though.
So... I bought a Furminator, and the problem with that is Caius will not sit still or lay down when I use it. He basically freaks out, and it makes me believe that it hurts him. I've tried holding his collar to where he sits still, or having him in a calm state beforehand, but whenever he sees me bring it out, he immediately goes nuts. Any ideas?

I know it's not suppose to hurt, and when I try stroking, I definitely go gentle. Whenever I try, it seems to me he hates it and wants to run away and/or bite it. I've tried to let him smell/lick it, but again, he goes straight to biting it like it's his worse enemy. Kinda sucks.

Hi Lauren, try and re-introduce the furminator with positive reinforcement, it is the same way you introduce the nail clipper or tooth brush.

1. "fake" brush it with the back of your furminator and feed Caius with treat in your other hand, put him in the "lay down" position and reward him with treats.

2. Re read the instruction on how to use the furminator properly, remember don't press down, always lift up at the end of the stroke.

3. Once Caius have associated the furminator with positive reward, then you can proceed to brush him for real.

Check out my furmination photos here.

Good luck!

WOW !!!! thats amazing!!
I bait my guys with large sized treats while I brush them, otherwise they constantly try to bite the brush or the furminator. It works a lot better when they have a yummy treat to distract them!
Carly is the same way with it...
Sparky is 5 1/2 months old and i am just now realizing the importance of the Furminator. He is loosing his undercoat at a tremendous rate right now! Unbelievable how much hair that brush removes.
I bought a Dyson.
I tried Wentworth Corgis formula of fabric softener and water since we had a brief warm spell and it seemed to work great. They got a good comb out after they dried and it seems like they are shedding a lot less. Of course they are not really blowing the coats right now but I still think there is a difference. Both corgis smell nice too but as soon as they find something smelly to roll in that will end...
We have a furminator, Sidney loves to be brushed, but we rarely use it. He doesn't shed much. He gets a squirt of skin/coat supplement on his dinner, and his Dasuquin (glucosamine) chews also have avocado/soybean oil. I've also given him fish oil with good results.
Furminator and brush are our best friends.  We also SwifferVac every 2 days.
