Sparty needs surgery ==Surgery over update

Well, we saw the vet this morning and Sparty will have his toe amputated on Wednesday. After 4 weeks on antibiotics we have no alternative but to go through with the amputation. I am very nervous but fortunately Sparty is very healthy for his age and I have a very good vet. So have good thoughts for us on Wednesday and I will keep you posted.

Update-

Ok Sparty is out of surgery. His infection was a lot more extensive than we thought so the vet had to remove an additional joint. He should still be able to walk. We also had a small cyst on his eyelid removed and they found a cyst under his tongue that also had to be removed. So Sparty will probably not be feeling too good when he gets home. My vet thinks he probably will be able to come home tomorrow but I am calling later today to be sure. Hopefully the biopsy will show just infection and no cancer. Thanks for all the support and I will keep you informed. It sure is hard having them get old....

Hope all the test are neg. He will be OK I've had 3 toes removed myself due to infection. So if I can do it I know he can. Best wishes and prayers.

I'm glad he is okay--though missing an extra bit of toe and having two cysts is no fun at all. I hope he recovers fast and is back to normal soon. He'll definitely be able to walk still; dogs are super resilient. Watch out for that cyst out from under his tongue though! He may have a lot more to say now! haha.

Thanks every one! It turned out that Sparty had to spend the night at the clinic after all :( However, they said he is doing really well so I am encouraged by that. Ouch Melvin! This is an outside toe so he should be fine. I am more worried about the cysts and the results of the biopsy. Sparty is almost 13 and I know we are on the down side but I prefer to have him a few more years. He is a smart, tough little guy! Also, it is very weird to come home to a quiet house because Sparty is my resident Bigmouth.
