I read Room a few months ago, disturbing yes, but very good. I also recommend The Sandcastle Girls, story about the Armenian Genocide, very well written. It's by Chris Bohjalian.
Alice,
Wise Man's Fear was indeed hard to put down (and hard to hold up. Boy are my wrists sore!) I did find his time in fairy-land much too long, though it did set up his meeting with the scary tree creature that told him the horrible truth about the future and the past. (Still trying to not give anything away to anyone who hasn't finished the book yet :) ) You should check out the discussion on Goodreads, in the laser and sword section. There were lots of ideas there about what might be coming in the next book, based on things I did not pick up on myself. Fascinating.
I'm currently reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I bought the book when it was first released and never got around to reading it. I'm 65 pages in and so far, I'm not sure what I think. The beginning I found to be very dull with all the political and financial back story but I'm beginning to enjoy it and I'm interested in the characters. So many people seem to love this book so I'm hoping I get lost in it soon.
On another note, Carlos Ruiz Zafon has a new book out! We all know how I love me some Zafon ;) This is another young adult novel (his young adult books are really more adult) and is called The Midnight Palace. That's next on my reading list.
Hey Julia,
The Wise Man's Fear was great. I enjoyed it just as much as the first. In this book Kvothe spends a lot more time away from the university but that allows us to meet some interesting new characters. By the end of this book you can really see how Kvothe has grown and changed and I can't wait for the next book!
