I think I would have been embarrassed to see it with my parents. I remember seeing Zack and Miri Make a Porno with my husband and his dad and it was a bit awkward.

I always see parents bringing their kids to movies they absolutely shouldn't be seeing and you;re right, it is appalling. I don't have kids and don't know if I ever will but even I know better than that.

So what did you think of P&P and Zombies? You could read Sense & Sensibility and Sea Monsters. I looked up the two books you mentioned and they both sound fun.

Alice, I saw that movie with my grandfather and mother, my mother gasped a few times, my grandfather loved the dirtiness ( he is just one of those grandparents). But the fact that a parent took a 6 year old to see the movie was appalling.
Just finished reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Not sure what to read next, either Christopher Moore's "Island of the Love Sequined Nun" or Max Brook's "Zombie Survival Guide" again

Little bear,

Now it makes sense. Ha ha! I know we all refer to our pups as our kids but as some people have actual kids as well it can get confusing. Since we were talking about books for kids it didn't even dawn on me that you could have meant your dogs. I kept thinking, maybe they're very little kids and don't know what's happening... You never know though. I heard a woman telling a girl who couldn't have been more than 13 or 14 that her parents were being ridiculous by not letting her see the Hangover and that it's the best movie ever and she should tell her Mom to quit being uptight! Is she insane? For anyone who has seen the movie, you know it is definitely not for kids. This woman looked like she could have been the girl's grandma. She should know better!

Thanks for the great suggestions! She was asking me about a series today the first book is called The Lightning Thief and it centers around the Greek gods..Poseiden and Hades(sp)? Has anyone heard of it or read it? I usually like to read the more questionable books myself first...maybe I'll start reading them to the Corgis.....

LOL, I wondered how old your kids were! Mine are 31 and 27 so it is Ok for them but I don't think they would like me to read it to them....

oh no, definately not for younger children (i meant in the future when we start our family, HAHA!). oh goodness no the only kids i read them to are my dogs (they're our kids for now, we're just so used to saying it we don't think of how everyone else hears it!). lol, sorry about the confusion there. no, bear savannah and lexi will come snuggle up on me and i read them to them and they just pass out. i love being able to do that. good practice for when we start our family... but i think i'll start with pat the bunny for the human kids!!!

I'm reading one of the Sookie books right now. It is a fun series but it has some sexual content that I don't think would be appropriate for kids. It's more like a Twilight for adults.

Your daughter may also like the Vampire Diaries series by L.J. Smith. It's now a TV show; I've been watching it and I like it. I would have liked it even more if I were a teenager I think. :) You should also check out the young adult books by Charles de Lint. He is one of my favorite authors and he has written I think 4 young adult books. I have only read the Blue Girl so far and I liked it. Another great series is the His Dark Material series by Philip Pullman. They made a movie of the first book the Golden Compass but I wasn't impressed, the books are far better. Some say the series is better than Harry Potter but I wouldn't go that far; it was really good though. Well, that gives you some to start with. I'll have to ask my husband what else he would recommend since he managed a bookstore for the past 5 years and is up to speed with what's popular.

I love that you read the True Blood books to your kids! They are so funny. I cannot wait until the next book comes out in May!

If your daughter liked Twilight try the Hawksong series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. The main characters are two species of shapeshifters who are trying to stop a war that has raged for many generations. The crown prince of the serpentine and the crown princess of the avians decide to work together to stop the war. Very good and appropriate for the tween scene.
Uglies by Scott Westerfield is also very good, sci-fi for tweens and a romantic love triangle. It is also a series. I just read the Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clark which is alot like Twilight too. Deep Dark and Dangerous is a great ghost story by Mary Downing Hahn that tweens love too.

I realized that I didn't mention that my 3 girls are all in their 20's. We did enjoy the first 5 or 6 Anne Rice vampire books, but I wouldn't recommend them for kids under 20. When my kids were young they loved Louis Sachar, Judy Blume, and Roald Dahl books. That was way before Harry Potter!!
