Alice, she has read all the Harry Potter series and loved them. I'm going to look into A Wrinkle In Time for her I think. I know she has not read that yet. If you think of more let me know.

I finished the Angel's Game and it was very good. If anyone plans on reading that and Shadow of the Wind, while Shadow of the Wind is still my favorite I would recommend starting with Angel's Game since the end leads you right into Shadow of the Wind. Such great books!

Has your daughter read the Harry Potter series? I love those. When I was younger I read the Madeleine L'Engle Time Quarte series (it begins with A Wrinkle in Time) and they were some of my favorites. A lot of people who read Twilight also liked the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare though I cannot say as I have not read them. Those are some you can look into for your daughter.

i actually read my kiddos the true blood books (i've read twilight so many times the pages are falling out, lol!). i use different voices and everything, they look at me funny like, "mommmmmmmmmmmm!!! you sound silly!" but it puts them to sleep hearing my voice. they snuggle up all close (and i wear my feety pajamas so every inch of mommy is snuggle-able) and they all come sleep on me and listen to me read. its been one of the most rewarding and deep bonding experience ever. can't wait till i can read to me and my fiancee's children! ;)

Wanted to get my tween daughter some good books for Christmas, she loved the Twilight series...any suggestions for a good follow up series? She is 11 and an avid reader. She has already read Inkheart..loved the first but not happy with the 2nd I guess.

Finished reading all the Twilight series. I'm sorry I wasn't really impressed. I liked the idea but it didn't go anywhere. Now I'm starting "in a perfect world" by Laura Kasischke. The lady in Borders ran over to me and said I had to read this because all the book clubs are reading it. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Lucy,

Yes, Carlos Ruiz Zafon is the author of Shadow of the Wind. He is a Spanish writer and all of his books are in Spanish. Shadow of the Wind was the first to be translated to English and now the Angel's Game. He has many novels including a young adult series and hopefully they will be translating more in the near future.

My friend loves those Jane Austen remakes. She really liked Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and is almost done with Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters now. She thinks I would like them so I might have to give them a try.

Have you read any of the Gregory Maguire books such as Wicked or Son of a Witch? You may like those. I read them both and really liked them. I own some of the others such as Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Mirror Mirror but I haven't read them yet.

To Susan, Radar & Cooper, Sorry I can't give you the information you wanted re. who wrote "shawdow of the wind". I went to amazon and found only the title with authors: Carlos Ruiz Zafón and translated by Lucia Graves. You didn't mention anything about a translation, so I don't know if this will help. I just had to mention a coincidence that I went to Costco today and purchased the story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski. Haven't started it and I had never heard of Edgar Sawtell until today. But we'll see! Wish I could have been more help.

I'm an avid reader and would be delighted to try out your book club. I'm reading an amazing eye-opening, and actually hilarious National Book Award winner by journalist, Peter Hessler, re. his life in China after a stint in the Peace Corps titled "The Oracle Bones." Actually I wish I started with his first book, "River Town" which he wrote after finishing in the Peace Corps. I have always been drawn to Chinese (and Asian) writers and directors, and because my dgt. is finishing her first year in the peace corps, I was esp. drawn to this book.
