Re: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
If I recall all the three book have been made into movies. All have been foreign from the same country (can't remember which one though). I have two of the books but still have yet to read them. One day I'll get to it.

Re: the Alice in Wonderland book convo.
I am a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and recently "read" the book by listening to them on tape. It's true that I'm one of those people thrown off by language if I feel it's difficult to decipher but listening to it on CD was nice because there was a continuous flow and I can't get hung up on something I don't actually have to process visually first. I saw the new Alice movie and think it was more true to the books than Disney's Alice.

I know we talked about the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo before briefly (no, I still have not read it yet but it's on the list) and I saw that there is a movie out now. I believe it's a foreign film. Has anyone seen it?

My dad bought me a book when I was a kid that had those two stories in it. I think I ready one of them, but I honestly don't remember now, lol. Now I am also wondering where that book went,,,,,,,,

Ah, that makes sense. I have read other books and poems from that era and they are indeed challenging, but not impossible. I would still like to give it a try. I love the story and feel like I'm missing something by not reading the books.

Hi Alice,
I haven't read the Carroll books but I remember reading the poem, The Jabberwock. What I have found about books from this era is that the language is quite different from how we use it now. There was no tv or other media formats to distract those who were literate from reading so the vocabulary used was richer. I remember reading an excerpt from Peter Pan (the original not the "Disney-fied" version) and even as an English major, if I really wanted to understand most of the words, I would have had to look up several words in each sentence. This is what keeps people from reading the classics now - they just don't have the patience for them - the language is odd sounding and difficult. Luckily, new classics are being created every day - we just don't realize which ones they are yet.
I, too, saw the movie and have a desire to pick up the Carroll books. Maybe this summer.

I saw the new Alice in Wonderland movie in 3D over the weekend and after all the debate about whether or not most of the characters were from the book (as they were not from the Disney cartoon) I was thinking maybe I should read the books. I haven't up until now because people make such a big deal out of how difficult a read the books are. Has anyone read Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass?

Alice I can't wait until May 4, when the next Sookie book comes out.

I'm done with book 6 of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I think this was one of my favorites. A lot happened and some secrets were revealed. I like the new character Quinn (who was introduced in the previous book) as well as the other new characters such as Amelia. One complaint I have about these books are that the action scenes are over too quickly. There's a great build up and the fights are intense but then it's suddenly over and feels unfinished. Oh well, on to the next book (All Together Dead).

I was at the bookstore over the weekend helping my friend pick out a book and I found several that sounded good to me. I resisted the temptation to buy them since I already have a ton waiting at home, but I did write them down for later. I went onto Goodreads.com (I used to be a member but now I just use it for reviews) to read reviews for the books I wrote down. Everything is so mixed it's amazing. People rate books 1-5 stars and any book with have the best and worst ratings. I looked up my favorite book and my least favorite book and this was true for both of them. Sure makes it hard to base a book buying decision on the experience of others. I guess I'll just have to buy them blindly and hope for the best.

One good book to read is"Conversations with my dog" By Zig Ziglar.
Its about the author, Zig Ziglar and his corgi, Dirty Dog (or Taffy). When Dirty Dog (Zig’s affectionate nickname for Taffy) walked into the Ziglar family household on his short, stubby legs in early 1995, he walked straight into Zig’s unsuspecting heart. Conversations With My Dog shows a side of America’s number one motivator that few may have suspected. He’s nuts about his dog - and the feeling is obviously mutual.

Their discussions about health, happiness, faith, and the nature of dogs and how to improve relationships - including the one Dirty Dog has with his “Dad” - make this not only an enjoyable read, but one that will leave you with much to consider. (excerpt from www.learnoutloud.com)

I thought that this was a very ood book with a good, funny story
