Hey Alice! I read Water for Elephants a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It's a pretty quick read too. I think I read it in about 3-4 days.

Has anyone read the book Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen? It's a historical novel that came out last year. I've had it in my line up of books to read and just found out that they are turning it into a movie to come out in 2011. Now I really want to read it. I think I'll have to take a break from the Sookie Stackhouse series to read it.

I heard that the 4th book is the best so I am eager to read it. I just don't want to get vampire overload and not enjoy it as much and thought perhaps a break in between was wise. I can't believe how many books there are in that series! I guess I can at least read the 4th book then decide if I need a break.

I looked at White Queen and it does sound good. It got good reviews. So it's going to be part of a series? I see that there is one book before it.

Charles de Lint is a fantasy writer. His books are set in the modern world but he brings fairies and folklore into it. I really enjoy his writing. I've been reading the Newford stories. They are not a series so you could read any book on it's own and not be lost but they are all set in the fictitious town of Newford and contain many of the same characters. I've been jumping around in reading them. he also has some short story books which I have not read. I have an aversion to short stories for some unknown reason.

I'm about to finish Club Dead (the 3rd Sookie Stackhouse book) and I can't decide what I should read next. I could continue with the Sookie series or I could read something else in between. I have quite a few Charles de Lint books waiting to be read. Anyone else a Charles de Lint fan?

Welcome to the group! The Sookie books are very fun and they do go by quickly. :)

You'll have to go through the discussions when you get a chance and give your input so we can learn more about you. We have a couple other members who love history and several fantasy readers.

Edward & Gemima - I love the Blue Blood series! I love the different spin on vampire mythology, also. When the 4th book came out in October I bought it (though I don't own the rest), but I am curious as to how long the story will continue.

I haven't but they do sound a lot like the Sookie books. I think that series by Laurell K. Hamilton came out first though. I'm interested in reading them.

Has anyone read the Anita Blake series? It's suppose to be like the Sookie Stackhouse books.
