Hi! I'm glad I saw this group. Sidney is a therapy dog with Love on a Leash, North County group. He's been doing it for about a year and a half now, but he had to take some time off to recover from surgery. We'll be returning to duty in the next week or two.

Hi! Sage and I are working toward her therapy dog certificate. We have finished 2 obedience classes and could have tested for both the CGC and her Therapy dog but they don't hold this till May so we will do one more obedience class before the tests:) I am lucky as Sage and 2 of my other dogs can come to work with me as I work with people who have DD and physical disabilities.  My goal is to do some work in nursing homes also and it would be great to work with children so where this will lead...I don't know!

Luna is 4 months old. We just finished puppy kindergarten and will be continuing training and socialization, including getting her accustomed to random noises and unfamiliar items. She's used to be manipulated and doesn't appear to get startled at random noises. We will be joining the program love on a Leash once she's a year old, has gotten the CGC certificate, and can pass the therapy dog evaluation. If I don't think she's ready until much after a year old, that's fine, but she's doing great so far. I looked at Delta Society, but unfortunately they do not do much down here in San Diego and the San Diego Humane Society is one that isn't always looking for new volunteers. Love on a Leash was recommended by a fellow corgi owner.

DIRR & Nala - I believe the requirements are to pass the canine good citizen test and the best way to do that is to take a class that caters to that. Although look at the requirements for the test, I believe they're available on AKC's website, and if your dog has those qualities already you may be able to find someone to test her for that certification.

Nala has taken Basic Training classes.  But after that, I don't know what to do.  Any guidelines? Website? More info?  Thanks in advance!

me and my husband really want teddy to to therapy in Walter reed here in DC. its all the wounded veterans and im sure they would love to meet teddy!:) teddy has been very well socialized. loves kids! he just loves everyone he meets and isnt scared of anything. so far i am working on him to leave things drooped on the ground, being touched and not having him turn to see what it is. to ignore distractions. things like that. then its off to a class to train a bit more and then its the final test to see if he qualify's

Congratulations, Luna and Krystle. Selphie doesn't begin school until Monday. I think she'll love it, she already wants to say hello to every person she meets. She's turning out to be a very people-loving doggy, lol.

Luna graduated today and her trainer determined that since she did such a good job she gets the added feature of "All-Star" (whatever that means).  We'll be getting an extra certificate I guess, but I'm proud of my little girl.

It was very sweet also that the baby girl of one of the other puppy owners was feeding Luna treats and Luna was very gently taking them from her fingers.... I'm glad I've taken the time to work with her in those type of things - especially with my own nieces and nephews.

Tomorrow is Luna's last day of puppy kindergarten - yay, she's graduating! - and she is doing really great with her socialization.  We will be going on Sunday to the dog park to meet up with a few other corgis for a play date, and next weekend we have a big corgi meetup so that she can play with even more dogs.

She is doing exceptionally well with her training and I'm looking forward to her next class.  I'm going to be spaying her first, then taking her trainer's advice on what class to take next (I'll be asking her tomorrow what she recommends).  She loves people, especially children, and sits and waits for them to greet her so she can be petted.  I'm really hoping she'll do great as a therapy dog.
