I took Ellie to a neurologist today to have her seizures evaluated since they're getting progressively worse despite continuing to increase her medication. General practice vets had previously diagnosed idiopathic epilepsy; the neurologist said that's unlikely given the results of Ellie's neurological exam. Their diagnosis is an autoimmune brain disease.
Ellie has been started on prednisone. We'll know within the month if she is responding to treatment, but the prognosis is not good.…

Hello -
I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with urethral cancer in a spayed female. We just found out on Saturday that Gracie has a tumor which will ultimately block her from being able to pee and there is nothing that can be done. We do have her on an NSAID and are hoping this will shrink the tumor to give her longer. I really have no idea how long she has with us - she is a healthy 11 year old and is not acting any different than she did 6 years ago....(except the…

I have been toying with the idea of making an altoid first aid kit for outings with Becca. I've checked online for suggestions and have some basic ideas for what to include. I'd like to merge them into a kit for people and dogs. It will be used for everything from the beach to hikes.
My list so far:
Benedryl
bandaids
gauze pads
alcohol pads
neosporin
duct tape wrapped around a mini sharpie
tweezers or small knife including…

I t's that time of year when maturing palo verde borers emerge from the ground. This particularly nasty critter lives underground for most of its two- to eight-year lifespan…

Gutie is 6mo and is incredibly smart/obedient. He knows how to sit, lay down, come, stay, roll over, play dead, bark/howl on cue, touch an object when pointed to, nose a bell when it's time to potty, heel, dance in a circle, jump through a hoop, kennel up, high five, shake, wave hi/bye... among other various tricks. I've heard that training classes are also an excellent way to teach good behaviors and socialize but Gutie is such a good boy. He doesn't jump on anyone (children especially)…

If the food intake is restricted (165g / 6-7 ozs of high fibre kibble) and the poos are getting larger (and they were never small!), then QED the corgi must be shrinking....and he is: big boned (that euphemism cuts across species) Dougal has lost a kilo (2.2 lbs) so far. There may actually be a waistline lurking under that fluffy coat and his belly doesn't appear to be quite as close to the ground. Now if only I could apply the human equivalent to myself!

Watson is one and a half years old and still a joy to live with. He loves to play fetch and aggravate Izzy who is way too cool to play games with him. I am in full remission from cancer and am hoping that it lasts a long time. It is great to be free of chemo and start getting hair and energy back. Watson is getting more training as a result and more exsercise as well. It's…

So it's been a while since I've been on here. But I wanted to inform everyone that Domo has passed away. It breaks my heart to hear the news. I just came back from deployment and I was just waiting to pick him up and have him run into my arms. Now I won't get the chance to do so. I just wish I could have seen him just one more time.
I'm just curious if any of you have lost a corgi and how long did it take you to get another dog, if you did so.

I've been a silent lurker for awhile, not because Ellie gives me nothing to talk about, but because I've settled into my role as a Corgi parent and handle things as they come up with minimal panicking. I'm quick to take Ellie to the vet, even the emergency vet once, so I get most of the advice I need straight from him. I came online today and read some posts about Corgis who hate heat, and it reminded me of the value of participating more actively in this community.
Ellie has been…

She's not a corgi but I have to show her off anyways. She...who doesn't have a name yet...is a 3 month old black GSD. My daughter picked her up Friday and things appear to be going very well. No accidents the first night at all and no whimpering being in a…

Today is the day the world was blessed with Noodles presence 10 years ago. I can't believe how time has flown by. His birthday party will take place after we get home from work, but I've been busy preparing for it. He will get an ice cream sandwich instead of cake this year...the cookies are peanut butter flavored and the ice cream is peanut butter & banana flavored and of course, all doggie safe ingredients. Here's a picture of him from this morning sporting his birthday bandana and his…

Hi everyone! Gutie is 4.5 months now and is getting 1/2 cup of Fromm's Puppy dry food 3x day (7am, 12pm, 5:30pm). I can visibly see his waistline and his ribs (both of them aren't sticking out, but I can see them without any difficulty). He's an active dog (puppy play dates 2x/week, hiking/long walks everyday, swimming at the beach/pool, running freely at the park/cabin). I took him to the vet to get weighed the other day on their scale and he's nearly 21lbs, but she the tech assured me…

The first pic is Sophie back in December of 2014; it shows her lying on her ottoman after her first chemo treatment; a pretty sad corgi, indeed. She had been diagnosed with lymphoma in early December during a routine vet visit to monitor her seizure meds and we were devastated. We decided to go ahead with chemo despite her age (10 yrs.) and Hx of seizures, since she was still enjoying life, food and walks. We agreed to stop the treatment…
