Corgi went to beach: now throwing up and pooping out sand

My corgi and I went to the beach yesterday. I guess he ingested a lot more sand then I realized! So he started throwing up last night. I decided to not feed him and just give him water to hydrate. The next morning it was a mess full of throw up and poo (basically brown liquid and sand).

I might just see how he is for one more day and call the vet tomorrow. But I'm worried if it is more serious? Has this happened to anyone before?

I was planning to just hydrate him and not give…

World Dog Show - Paris 2011

Just came home from the World Dog Show in Paris. What an amazing experience! The last time I went to a dog show, it was in an exposition hall back in Hawaii, in the 90s. Needless to say, this show was bigger by several orders of magnitude.

It was inspiring to see not just beautiful animals, but the people who loved and cherished them so very much. You could just feel the hopeful and happy energy buzzing throughout the place. And what a huge place it was. By the end, my legs…

An interesting view

***Reblogged from my blog MyDogIsFunSized.blogspot.com ***

So I picked up a new book today called "How Dogs Think" by Stanley Coren.

I will admit that I was lured by the fact that it has a corgi on the cover. However, I had somewhat recently finished reading a book called "The Wolf in the…

The Journey to Becoming a Corgi Mom - Part 3

Today was finally the big day!  Despite a changed flight and a delayed arrival, our little Ellie is finally here!  I was so worried that she would be stressed and exhausted after her trip here, but she has been just perfect!  She didn't bark or whine on the way home, just sat in my lap and enjoyed the scenery.  After getting home she had all sorts of fun exploring our kitchen and climbing all over us.

update on my Corgis

The lads are both over 2 years old now and it is nice that they don't feel the need to destroy everything around them.  I think it was a teething thing and not really a negative trait.  I have given them back some of their more delicate toys and so far there has been no destruction.  They are still just the best kids in the world and being with them is the highlight of my day.  At this age they seem to be more independent of each other, which is surprising as they have always been so close. … Continue

Corgi looking for a home

Hi everyone.

I received a call today from a family looking to re-home their 3 year old corgi.  His name is Max and he is a sable, neutered male.  He is UTD on shots, heart worm preventative and flea control.  According to the current owners, he is quite an active little guy who needs more time and activity than this family can give.  If you are interested, email me at cindi_g@comcast.net and I will share the contact information with you.

Large foot pad lifted up & Bella is limping! :( Another vet visit!!

We have a pool and Bella loves running around the pool and jumping in. She is quite the little swimmer. She started limping last night and licking at her front paw. We examined it and found her large black pad on her foot to be completely lifted up on one side. Ack!! Under the pad is tender red skin...looks very sore but not infected. We applied Neosporin on it but stopped that because she licks at it. We are taking her to the vet tomorrow but just curious if anyone has experienced this with… Continue

Just love those wiggly butts

So we were out for our walk the other day and a little girl (3 or 4 years old) sees Lilly and says "look at the puppy"  then sees Brody and "oh, 2 puppies"  So of course we stopped and I told mom if she wanted it would be ok to pet them.  They were both very good, no jumping, no sneaking in kisses and as we walked away the little girl exclaims "Oh I just love those wiggly butts"

Lucy needs a new home

It's breaking my heart, but the sibling rivalry between our year-and-a-half old Pembroke Corgi and six-year-old Australian Shepherd mutt have gotten to the insurmountable stage. We've gone through lots of training, behavior modification -- both the dog's and ours -- and other steps to try to resolve the issues, but instead of getting better they are getting worse.

Meanwhile Lucy is well trained, loveable, smart, and great dog. We just can't have the two dogs in the same room…

1 week; a corgi foodie blog entry

Bento has been with us for 1 week, and he's without a doubt, an awesome corgi.

So far, he loves peanut butter.  Nothing gets his furry butt wagging more than a puppy kong with peanut butter.

He's also very fond of Bil-Jac and Train Me treats.  We cut them in half and use them as rewards for his training. Unfortunately, too many of these treats make his poop gooey.  Must be the higher fat content.  Which is why we switched over to Natural Balance Duck and…

sudden onset of excessive drooling

We took Merlin swimming for the first time yesterday. Everything seemed to have gone well. This morning, we noticed that his bed was saturated. Didn't smell like urine, didn't know what it was. Brought him to the living room to hang out with us as we usually do and noticed that he's been drooling excessively. Any ideas? Could he have swallowed too much chlorinated water at the pool yesterday? There are no other symptoms (no vomit, lack of appetite, diarrhea). It's as if he's not wanting to…

FIREWORKS MAKE MY CORGI FREAK OUT!!

Anyone have any good suggestions for making the Holiday a little more tolerant for Gemima? She is scared to death of all the noise... so far she has a hidey hole she finds in our basement and stays there for pretty much the entire time. Is she doomed to a life of hiding out or can she join the party? She is also afraid of Thunder!!… Continue

The Perfect Chair.....for Goldy

A few years ago I had some insane back issues and one of the things my doctor recommended was a zero gravity chair.  I shopped around and found "The Perfect Chair" - I cringed at the price $1200 for a CHAIR?!?!?!  That's insane!!!

But of course, one more bad night and I ended up back at the "Healthy Back Store" buying the damn thing.

Goldy has since decided that the perfect chair is the perfect place to relax…

Agility Drop-in Classes

Our trainer is having agility "drop-in" classes every Wednesday. Each week, she sets up a course and people bring their dogs and it's almost like a trial-like atmosphere. Yesterday was our first class. The Novice course she set up was 16 obstacles (weaves, 2 tunnels, a-frame, dogwalk, and 11 jumps.) After walking the course and watching a few of the more experienced handlers run it, Baxter and I were up for the challenge. On our first run Baxter only had one refusal. I was so impressed at…

My baby is 1 today!!!

Today is Ginger's first birthday.  Man, how time flies!  I can't believe that it was a year ago that I was waiting anxiously for her to be born.  It's been a crazy year, as she's on the high-strung end of the corgi personality spectrum, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!  I'm picking up her birthday cake after work from a doggy bakery.  Hopefully I can upload some pictures tonight.  I keep telling my husband it's time to get another one, but he's not having any of it! :)  Happy Birthday… Continue

Thanks for the puppy praises!

Thanks for all of the gushing over the puppies.  Regardless of all of my grumblings I know that we have been blessed.

Lando Oliver poops when scared.

Rexx again attacked Lando Oliver, rexx has these phases where we think he is not all their and it lasts for a few days. Bootsie will show his tummy when Rexx goes over to him but I guess LO ha a little more domination but rexx is a bigger dog. Anyhow LO will not only pee but poop when rexx goes for him, how strange is that. LO pees when he is excited but doesn't poop. Like he will pee sometimes when someone comes over. Man I need cesar or someone to come sort this stuff out, it is wearing on… Continue
