What the Tig ate this week: 1/2 bag of peppermint sticks

A friend of mine picked up a bag of peppermint sticks to give to my horse Red. It was a treat for him since he had moved to a new barn.  I decided to take the corgis with me, since it has been a long day, it was very cold and they would enjoy a walk around the new barn.  As we were driving to the barn, Tigs got closer and closer to me.

"Awww, he wants to cuddle." NOT! He was doing recon work on the yummy smelling peppermint sticks in my purse that was under my car…

Spay procedure on the 19th... Need advice

I'm having my 16 week old pembroke corgi spayed on the 19th of this month, and I had a long talk with a vet friend of mine about the procedure and now I'm a little paranoid. She told me that her office does the following for every single spay surgery:

physical exam before the surgery

blood panel work up

iv fluids during procedure

continuous pulse ox and blood pressure monitoring during procedure

pain meds for after, and to take…

Happy New Year at Rose Cottage!

I don’t know what a year is, new or otherwise but, so far, it’s going great!  We stayed up late on New Year’s Eve.  Mum made us pointy hats that had polka dots and our names.  She did this in a hurry (she said) so she said she didn’t have a proper way to…

One Neuter Down; One to Go (or should I say two down; two to go) :-)

1/8 - UPDATE: The licking has begun. :(  Cone of shame is not going to cut it; headed to Petsmart to find a donut (because Petco doesn't have any).

Jon Farleigh underwent the "procedure" yesterday. This is how he looked last night:

Can you say "grouchy"?

(He was determined to show Dewi that he was still higher in the pack and…

Corgi Art

A local artist offered her services for a fundraiser so an assistance dog could have surgery. Here's Sidney's masterpiece!

He looks like quite the butterball here, but I promise he's not that chunky!

Check in and Spay Surgery news 1/3/11

Hello all my corgi friends!  It's been a while since I have checked in.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and enjoyed time with family, friends and fur babies.  Isabella was spoiled rotten with new toys and treats.  She loved chewing up all the boxes and wrapping paper.  It was great fun!  Oh, right before Christmas Isabella went to her first grooming appointment.  I am great at baths and have no problems there, but she developed a few mats behind her ears that I didn't want to…

Corgi teaches calculus

On January 5th our newspaper, The Lansing State Journal, printed an article about a visit to a local high school by a Hope College professor that uses his Welsh Corgi ,Elvis, to help teach calculus. I read about this a few years ago but did not realize that he lived in Michigan. He noticed while playing fetch with Elvis that the dog took the shortest and best route to the ball every time. Always knew our buddies were smart!

Winston's First Christmas!

We had our first Christmas with Winston. We drove up to Virginia with him and he got to see snow! He took to it quickly. Even on our first walk around the neighborhood, he decided he'd rather hop about in the snow than walk along the asphalt with us. We wrapped some big snack chew treats in paper and let Winston unwrap them. He did pretty well for his first time, but after he had some help, he kept trying to look into the wrapping paper for the bone. It was cute.

What was…

New Itchy Problem

We live in Florida a typically hot and humid place, lately it has been dry and cold. This is when Benjamin has started his new problem. He is itching and biting like crazy. He is itching so much that he he is causing himself to bleed. We don't have fleas, and we haven't changed his diet. We know that we have been dealing with extremely dry skin ourselves (lack of moisture in the air) and we believe that this is his problem. Is there something we can put on him to soothe his itchiness?

Concern for random new behavior

I have noticed recently (last 2 weeks) Roslyn has started a new behavior.

I have always been quite proud that she is hardly ever destructive (except for the time when she and a friends dog decided that ripping each leg off an octopus toy during tug of war was a good idea), and has always known the difference between her toys and my things.

until recently

Suddenly I find her sleeping on my slippers every morning. Each morning my husband wakes up first to…

Need advice from my Corgi family - Keiko tore her cruciate

Hi everyone.. So on New Years day my boyfriend and I decided to take keiko and our new adopted jack russell terrier mix to the park for some play time. Keiko was chasing Lenny and suddenly she let out a cry and stopped mid chase... Took her to her vet this AM and he immediately diagnosed a torn knee ligament and advised surgery without even taking x rays. He quoted me 4500..needles to say, I was very overwhelmed with the thought of my babe under going this invasive surgery called TPLO. I… Continue

Just a brief intro...

My baby came home for the first time on November 11, 2009 at 8 weeks old. She was just a tiny little thing, but has already grown to about 25 pounds. I can't believe it's already been over a year since she's been home: I actually had to double check the date, because it feels like our time together has been so short.

I have another dog, Lady- a German Shepherd, and if the weather permits, both stay outdoors. I'm in California so Mango likes to be outside at night, chasing all the bees…

Sidney's FHO journey; New Year's Day Hike

Well, it has been just under four months since Sidney underwent FHO surgery for his hip dysplasia.

It has been a tradition for me to take Sidney and whichever kids I could drag out of bed on a New Year's Day hike on one of our local trails. I was sure that Sidney would not be able to join us this year due to his surgery. But he has been healing so well…
