Last night sherlock got into a great big mess, and at 11:00 we had to give him a bath! He hates baths, and tries to get out of the tub. He splashes water all over you, and gets you smelly like a wet dog. (haha). He especially hates when we put the shampoo on. We have no idea why becasue we dont go anywhere near his eyes. He starts getting really hyper and goes crazy when we pull out the shampoo, though. Even though it is really hard to give him a bath, at least he smells good afterwards!

Murphy turned one year old on December 26th and I cannot believe it. I remember when I found his breeder's website and I saw his cute little puppy face. I knew that he was the one I wanted. I showed Chris while he was at work and he just happened to pick the same puppy that I did. I knew it was meant to be. He was meant to be ours. I'll never forget how excited I was to pick him up from the airport. I waited and waited all day in anticipation to get him, but we had to wait till 11 PM because…

This Christmas, Sherlock made out like a bandit! Under the christmas tree, there were three presents for him, and very good ones too! He got two very fuzzy and soft squeaky toys, and huge rawhide bone and doggy candy canes, that he recieved each day for 12 days before christmas! Sherlock really likes his new polar bear plush and loves chewing on the rawhide he got that he hasnt even finished yet! What a great christmas!

It was a great plan, but you know what they say about plans. I plan, God laughs. It seemed like the perfect addition to Tags recent adventures: A snow day! I admit that all the great snow photos taken by people who actually *live* in the white stuff made me a little jealous. I haven't lived in snow since I was 7 years old; my children have never even seen snow fall from the sky (the soap bubbles at Disneyland do not count). What could be more fun than taking the kids and Tag for a snow day,…

Early this morning I found two stray dogs running around the neighborhood. They had collars but no tags. I spent all morning calling rescues, trainers, vets, and driving around all the surrounding neighborhoods looking for "Lost" posters. I posted an ad on craigslist and even went to all the surrounding pet supply stores that were having adoption fairs to look for help. Sadly, I could not find their owner and none of the rescues had room. I just had to take them to the animal shelter, which…

So, I had to take Beavis and Butthead to the groomers for a bath and blowdry. A few days ago they jumped in the bathtub with me - weirdos - and I noticed last night that they were both a little itchy. After looking them over it occurred to me that the bubble bath I had in my bath probably made them itchy. The temperature here today is a brisk 13 degrees WITHOUT the wind chill and it's snowing, so I didn't want to bathe them here risking they might get too cold.
I dropped them off a…

Poor thing; she is really uncomfortable now and she still has a long way to go. I should be able to feel puppy movement in another week or so, but right now it's all belly. I'm feeding her lots of small meals a day because she can't eat a lot at once anymore and I am worried about her being underweight nursing what is obviously either a big litter or a bunch of BIG puppies. She can still hop up on the couch but she moans and groans a lot when…

When Bear and Goldy are playing and she gets the urge to frap, chickenboy Bear leaps up onto the couch and plops himself into my lap! If I try to push him off, he resists and looks into my eye as if to say, "SHE'S LOST IT!!! Look at her running around the room! She is NOT right!! SAVE ME!!!!!"
They crack me up.

Jackson has been home for about a week now and I'm really starting to learn, albeit trial and error, what works for him.
I can say so far, Jackson is about 80% angel and 20%... unbelievable yippy unrelentless little devil.
Things we have mastered:
Crate training at night - thanks to all of the advice here! He has a towel that I put over his crate to keep things a little darker and he seems to like that. Not a peep in three nights. I wake him up four or five…

It was bound to happen sooner or later. After all, we only live about 5 miles from the beach in a county that's well-known for it's dog friendly atmosphere (as opposed to the rest of the state, that is). I wouldn't have guessed that his first trip to the ocean would be in late December, but you just never know what the weather is going to be like in Sunny Southern California.
We didn't actually make it to one of the "dog beaches". I opted for an easy, albeit expensive, parking spot…

Our Tag is the last kid on the block to be allowed free run of the ranch. All the other pups born this year are old hands at running free...the heelers, the German and Australian shepherds, the mutts...everyone but Tag has been running free for months. It's not that he's terribly disobedient or more reckless than the other pups. His mom is paranoid.
Ok, let me defend myself a little! He's *small*. I know the rat terrier is smaller, but that dog has enough attitude to take on any…

Let me start off by saying that Spanish was my first language, Cuban mother. When my grandmother that only spoke Spanish passed, I sort of lost a lot of it. During the Christmas break, I have been trying diligently to remember it (I know it is in my subconscious because I sleep talk in Spanish, my friends have it recorded).
My question is, does any one have any experience in teaching their Corgis commands in multiple languages?
I believe if Wynstan understood Spanish, it…

Over Christmas, my brother met Stella for the first time and he made an interesting observation. He was petting her and said, "Hey! She has a map of the Continental U.S. on her nose!" At first, I didn't know what he was talking about, but then I saw it! I had never noticed it before. I always thought that the white star of fur on the back of her neck was her most interesting mark, but this is hilarious! Check it out! To me, it looks like the coasts are reversed, though. I said that to my…
