Brotherhood

Risa grew from puppy to adolescent and we decided to meet his brother's pack to let the two foxes play together and throw off some of their energy. We went by the car (Risa gets more and more comfortable - no throw-ups in the car) and visited a beautiful village set in a countryside full of ponds, forests and hills. Risa and his brother Figo started playing… Continue

The connection between me and Risa

It's been quite a long time since my last blog post. Risa is 6 months now and we did lots of funny stuff in the last

month. We visited a puppy class, but I wasn't satisfied by the methods used there. It was our first and last visit there. I decided not to spend my Risa's puppyhood on training just obedience and we're working on some funny tricks right… Continue

Risa's brother found!

Yesterday I was busy learning for my English exam when suddenly I realized, that I didn't check my website for quite a long time. And to my surprise, I found a new comment there. Young girl from nearby town got a corgi as a wedding gift and he is my Risa's brother Figaro! She seems very kind and I hope that we will meet soon to let our little corgi brothers… Continue

The tooth fairy is very busy here

Risa turned 4 and 1/2 months and his teeth are growing like crazy. Right now 6 new teeth growing,

another two nearly coming out. He's eating well, we give him a lot of things to chew, so I hope it doesn't hurt him too much. Sometimes he's tired and I can see that he's in some pain. But after a few hours he's my old Risa again,… Continue

First puppy tooth out!

I was playing with Risa today, when he suddenly grabbed the zipper of my sweater and chewed it. Then he let it go and crunched something - I thought it was a piece of kibble, but where did he get it? On my sweater? No no, not at all! It was his tooth he crunched! His first puppy tooth is out and there's a teeny-weeny hole in his gum. The neighbouring tooth is also waggling, it seems that the first two puppy teeth will be out after today dinner. What a big thing :)

Food change suggested to support chewing

Risa is a typical corgi when it comes to eating. He's golluping and swallowing his food so fast, that he often hiccups after meal. However, what I'm really worried about is his jaw. His mandible is too narrow, so his stomach tooht (aka lower canine?) is getting right into the gum of his upper jaw making a tiny hole there (without being bloody or inflamed). I give Risa a lot of things to chew, but the jaw is still narrow. Yesterday I spoke with my vet about this. Half year ago he advised me to… Continue

Visited parents and threw up in the car.

Last weekend was very busy for Risa. On Saturday we went to see my parents. Risa had just a tiny breakfast and off we went to my hometown, 1 hour car ride away. Risa was such a good boy in the car! He loves to look out and watch the surrounding landscape go past. However, just a few minutes away from our destination, he threw up his breakfast. No big deal, I… Continue

Hot town, summer in the city

Summer is finally here and the heats are unbearable for me, autumn-loving fatty :) It will be nearly 90°F today, which is realy a HOT day for our country. Risa is doing fine, resting all day in the shade. I walk him no later than 8 am and no sooner than 7 pm. Often we walk round the castle, which is in fact water-castle and so Risa can cool out in the moat or in a nearby stream. Here's a picture of us going to the castle. My friend made it last week when she came back from her stay in Norway… Continue

Most admired dog in town

As I posted here previously, corgis are not seen so often in our small country in the middle of Europe. My Risa is clearly the only corgi living in my town and its surroundings. When I walk him, I'm being stopped by many people asking me questions and admiring my Risa. It seems that nobody knows this breed here, I feel like a corgi pioneer. Sometimes I'm a bit offended by people telling me what a nice mixture or crossbreed it is! I'm a big educator here and first results are coming: no-one… Continue

12 weeks old miracle.

Risa is 12 weeks now and doing really great. The 4 weeks we've spent with him were full of worries, but full of fun, too. We love him so much! He turned to be a strong personality, stubborn sometimes, but brave and intelligent. We couldn't do much training because of his 2-weeks-long stomach problems - no treats, no training. But he learned a lot about our life just by watching us.

He's quite good on the leash, just a little bit of FRAPing sometimes. I take him to the town very often to… Continue

Solid poop, good news

Risa is making me happy with his at last solid poops. His stool has been normal for 2 days now and I plan to start adding his old food to the recent chicken+rice diet tomorrow. His ears are still down, but he's not losing weight anymore. Today, we made a trip on a leash to the nearby castle and we really enjoyed it. Hopefully, Risa will be OK now.

Diarrhea came back, I'm super-worried

Yesterday, after 5 days of runs and feeding chicken+rice, Risa had NORMAL stool. Maybe it sounds like I'm crazy, but I was totally happy. The little poop in the garden made me relaxed again. We visited the vet in the afternoon to tell him the news and he checked Risa quickly, saying he will be fine. Today morning I gave Risa his rice and waited for his poopy, but it was not so solid again and followed by yellow-like diarrhea. I'm frustrated. After the week of runs he's slowly losing weight and… Continue

Enjoy every day with your dog, everything can happen

So I was solving my Risa's diarrhea, looking for poops in the garden, cooking him rice and chicken, giving him pills twice a day. I was very worried, he's too young for 5-days-long runs. I was stressed, couldn't even concentrate at work. And then came my boyfriend, who's got his German shepherd living at his parents' house. Rina, the shepherd, had a gastric dilatation - volvulus. She probably had her stomach twisted from 9 pm till morning, it's a miracle that she survived and got a surgery at 9… Continue

Diarrhea - nightmare for me, no problem for my corgi

Our little guy (finally decided - his name is Risa, pronounced like Reesha in our language) is having this problem for four days now. I switched to rice+chicken on Monday, but it doesn't seem to help. Today I found something looking like rice in his little non-solid poo. I'm not sure if it is really the rice I'm feeding him, or if these are the eggs of some worm. We're going to the vet today, hope he will help.

Interesting thing is, that I seem to be the only one to worry about the… Continue

He's here! And I don't have a name.

After 12 years of waiting and 6 months of preparations, my first corgi ever is here. We brought him home at noon, played a little, no whining, lots of fun. Right now he's sleeping under the table in our garden, even our neighbours mowing the grass don't disturb him. So everything's going fine, we are really happy to have our boy finally home. The only problem is his name. The breeder named him Fergi, but I had something else in my mind. Now, looking at him, I'm not sure if the name I came with… Continue

Finally decided.

After very hard 4 days of thinking I decided to take the active and maybe a bit dominant pup. I already had two dogs and I think I can handle a dominant youngster. I'm planning to do some sports and a lot of obedience with my dog, so I need the active one. Here's a pic the breeder sent me. I was thinking about the calm pup on the left, but the guy with his both paws in the food bowl won it (they're 6 weeks in the pic).

I'll take the… Continue

Can't decide. Just can't!

The pups are 6 weeks now and really lovely! We saw them today after 14 days and I have to say, they grow like crazy. I have to decide between two boys, they are both very active, one seems a bit calmer, but the other one is just sweet and was following our feet and everything - you know. I CAN'T decide! The breeder offered me to take the pup next week, but I think I'll wait until he's 8 weeks old. That's two weeks to decide. I'm completely lost...

Only four pups survived

Yesterday I visited the breeder and saw my pup for the first time. I was a bit shocked that only 4 out of 7 pups survived. They are 4 weeks old now and hopefully doing well. They were eating raw meat when we came and so they are all a bit dirty in the picture. Also their paws and white spots were pink from the meat, but they were sweet! I'm still not decided which one will be mine, but the breeder is very kind and so I will be the first to choose, no matter how many other people will come to… Continue

First pic of my first corgi

I just got a few pictures from my breeder. Our corgi is 9 days old today!

My first corgi was born!

What a great news! On Wednesday 26th March my little corgi was born. Along with his 3 brothers and 3 sisters! It was quite hard, the birth was lasting very long, so the Caesarean section was needed. I hope that everything will be OK, the breeder is quite sure that both the mother and the pups are doing well. I'll visit the breeder in the middle of April to see my corgi for the first time. I'm so excited!
